Woman tries to kill mice, shoots self

A Potter Valley woman wounded herself and a man July 3 while attempting to kill mice with a .44-caliber Magnum revolver, according to the Mendocino County Sheriff's Office.
The woman, 43, had drawn the gun from a holster under her left arm, intending to shoot mice scurrying across the floor of a small travel trailer on Highway 20 in Potter Valley, according to the Sheriff's Office.
The revolver instead slipped from her hand and fired as it struck the floor, according to the Sheriff's Office.
The bullet went through the woman's right kneecap, then hit keys hanging on the belt loop of a 42-year-old man in the trailer, officials said. The bullet glanced off the keys and tore a hole in the man's pants.
The bullet grazed the man's groin before stopping in his coin pocket, where it was recovered for evidence, according to the Sheriff's Office.
The names of the shooting victims were not released.

when they say " small travel trailer on Highway 20 " do they mean that as in driving down highway 20?
cause if they do that is funny as hell.
Yeah I think you are right though, when you try to purchase a gun they should check the adress and if it is in a trailer park they should deny you. -
Yeah, I'd say that's pretty poor gun control.Expert Moron Extraordinaire

Sounds to me like better BIRTH control needed. If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

I'm not really a gun person, per se. I've shot some, don't have a problem with people owning them, but don't own one myself. That being said, isn't a .44 Magnum just a bit of overkill for a mouse???Wristwatch--->Crisco

How about better gun education?
That being said, how often does something like this happen? The fact that you almost never hear stories like this suggests gun control is good right where it's at. There will always be stupid people. Most gun owners take excellent care of their firearms. Do you have any idea how many guns are sold each year? If you had a shooting like this each day of the year, those 365 shootings would not come close to the number of guns maintained responsibly.
You have no argument without evidence that gun owners all over the country are regularly shooting themselves while shooting at mice. -

Yes, the gun needs to be locked up for life, IMO. What was that .44 Magnum thinking going after that mouse? That was clearly a job for .22 LR. -
I was thinking more along the lines of idiots like her shouldn't be born, regardless of what sort of weapon she's in possession of.If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

I HAVE NO ARGUMENT AT ALL. IT'S A STORY OF SOME DUMBASS SHOOTING A LARGE CALIBER HANDGUN INSIDE AN EFFING TRAILER.Wristwatch--->Crisco -

Honestly, its just stupid people. I remember reading this on the consumerist a while back. Just because a bunch of people drank torch fuel because they thought it was apple juice does that mean we should have better tiki tourch fuel control.
P.S. I like the title, if she had better control of that gun this wouldn't have happened. -
Ben, I get it and thanks for sharing, but you're right. You should have known better. Sad really.Political Correctness'.........defined

To all: I didn't start this thread to start any type of argument. I know there are passionate views on gun control, I should have known better then to hope that everyone would catch my sarcasm.Wristwatch--->Crisco -
I'm told that it was the same bullet that killed JFK.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

I agree with this statement. Sometimes go big or go home is not the solution. -
.44 magnum, hmmmmm. Maybe she was trying to punch holes big enough for the mice to get out :eek:DKG999

Ya, using a .44 to try to kill a mouse, that's gun education that's needed. Didn't she ever hear about the right tool for the right job?

This is a classic example how the law of "natural selection" DOES NOT WORK. Had it been true to form there would have been two less idiots walking the face of the earth with the mice continuing to flourish for eons."Just because youre offended doesnt mean youre right." - Ricky Gervais

I gotta stop reading this thread while at work. All this good humor is just lost on me while I'm stressing out here.

This reminds me of a "Cops" episode when the cops are leading the wife-beater shirt wearing, skrawny due to cancer smoking, messed up hair and bad toothed criminal; he looks back at the trailer and yells: "Don'chu touch my cigarettes woman!"...LOLSource: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Shop Spkrs: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2

Let's not assume that this was a typical mouse. Based on the size of the BUGS I've seen down here in the south, that could've been one of them Jurassic Park size mice!I refuse to argue with idiots, because people can't tell the DIFFERENCE!

I wouldn't be surprised if at least a little alcohol was involved. My equipment sig felt inadequate and deleted itself.
