REGA Planet 2000 CDP - 9/10 - Black - *SOLD* to BlueMDPicker
I picked this up with 6 other CDP's from a hoarder and fellow audio junkie. The rest are gone but this stayed for awhile since I really digged the loading mechanism and playback. It's a solid piece with classic British sound. This was a $1500+ player new....it's time for you to step up to something better folks.
It's a huge upgrade over the original Planet and I've heard both in-house. Don't waste your money on the older version. I also liked the elastomer feet it uses for isolation and resonance control.
I'm the second owner and it was lightly used before me...and just as lightly used while it was in my hands. The original power cord was nixed and replaced by a DIY style, copper/silver based cable from....ugh, I can't remember who but I believe they are out of business anyways. Cable Dynamics? OG power cords aren't anything to write home about and you automatically have a hot rod cable to tell your friends about....or not. That's not for me to say but it's well constructed and uses quality terminations.
Here's some factory REGA information:
The Planet CD Player improves on the classic Planet in every way with its stunning cosmetics and breathtaking performance. The Planet is the definitive bargain in the audio industry. Its sonics, reliability and innovative design have not been seen or heard before.
The Planet is housed in the Rega custom built extruded aluminium case with the new top loading lid assembly. It uses the same circuit topology as the original Planet but with improvements in the Digital to Analogue Converter (DAC), power supply and coupling capacitors. The DAC is based around the custom built IC40 DAC chip. The Planet uses the same RADS conversion stage as the original Planet and has an extra power supply for the digital section of the DAC. The Planet has a toroidal transformer with separate windings for the display and audio stages. It uses a high performance CDM145BL-5BD25 kit with an improved display and a better level of user functionality.
Specifications:
Rega 24bit Sigma Delta IC40 D.A.C.
Rega custom built extruded aluminium case
High performance Sony CD Mechanism
RADS conversion stage
Toroidal mains transformer
High performance power supply
Toslink & coaxial digital outputs
CD Text display
Rega VCS case isolation system
All connections have been treated with CAIG Pro-Gold and it's packaged to withstand a nuclear blast. I augmented the factory packaging with additonal support and protection.

Oh man Mark, where were you 6 months ago. This player is soooo good. Damn fine price. Good Luck!

Damn Mark I am so sorry I forgot to get back with you man. Wrong colors on everything. I need a silver CDP and Rosewood, Cherry or Ribbon Mahogany speaks. I'm looking for a silver CDP that handles SACD right now. The Marantz SA series looks good right now. But I'm open to any good silver SACD. Again I'm sorry for not getting back to you.

Mike - Thanks but I believe you have way too much to handle as is....eh?
Chuck - No worries and I understand the color thing. I rolled the price down to get it out of town. If you need silver....let's talk.
If you're checking out Marantz, check out the SA-8260 as it's a steal in most cases for SACD playback.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint. -

I"m in up over my eyeballs . . . but that doesn't mean I can't gawk and drool.
-
What kind of trade-in allowance can I get on one of those Fatman-sans-decals iPod amps w/speakers, NIB, that doesn't belong to me?
-
Hmmmm.....I guess we'd have to hash that out privately.
I forgot all about that thing Mike. I'll touch base with you this week.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint. -
I am, of course, **** with you. Hopefully, you won't forget to pickup the iPod thing when you bring the Rega over. I'll give it a whirl.
