Camera Help Needed

I'm looking into purchasing a Nikon D70 that is about 3 years old. Comes with all the original stuff when sold new plus a Nikkor 70-300 lens. Also included is a wireless remote control and a few filters. The one thing that concerns me is the number of clicks on the camera, a little over 13,000. Camera was sent back under warranty for the top LCD control panel which had a problem but is stated that all is well now. Does this sound like a deal or should I pass because of the number of clicks? Let me know what you think.

I believe the lens he is offering is the non-VR version which sells for $135 @ B&H photo (the online camera authority imo). The remote you can pick-up for $15 just about anywhere. This is not a good deal now that I think about it. I was surprised that my D70 sold as quick as it did for that price. Do not get me wrong the D70 is a nice camera depending on your intent. If you are just using it to shoot the kids in the back yard or flash photography at a party..etc...etc, it is a good choice; however, it does produce noticeable noise above 500 ISO. The noise is noticeable on screen, but not as much in print at 500 ISO. I will have to look and see what I actually sold my D70 for. I am thinking now that it was a lower price than previously stated. If I were going to invest in a consumer Dslr right now, it would be the D80 18-55 combo kit at B&H. I know it is more than the D70 deal, but you are getting 30% more resolution, a VR lens, the full Nikon warranty, and a brand new camera from a reputable online vendor.
I posted this here. Your pm box is full btw.

While 13,000 clicks is nothing to be concerned about...even on a conusmer grade DSLR...I agree with paymontna that it is not that good of a deal. I would pass."Just because youre offended doesnt mean youre right." - Ricky Gervais

I had originally tried to sell a Nikon 60mm micro F2.8 and a D70 for $700, and it did not sell. The 60mm is 3X the lens that he is offering. I ended up splitting them up and I almost got the combined asking price.

thanks..I cleaned out the PM box. I looked at the D80 a little while back. Also checked into a used D2x from a buddy of mine, body only. And have been looking at the D200's. I'm still mulling over what to buy. I'll check the Canons next. I'm not stuck on the Nikon brand, but I have lots of friends who use them and they have some really nice looking prints from them. Not so much Photoshopping them either.

I have both Canon and Nikon, well did. I just cleaned out the last of my Canon gear. I can say this honestly because I have used both brands and others, I prefer Nikon. The controls are right where they should be on the D2x and my new D3. I felt like I was fumbling looking for the controls on my Canon 5d and 1DmkIII. Everything from the on button to the ISO is placed perfectly. The other reason I prefer Nikon is the durability of their Dslr's. The military combat photographers use Nikon. That pretty much sums up their ruggedness. As far as image quality, the D3 is the best this month..lol.....and probably until October when Canon fires a counter attack....and the vicious circle continues. I know I said this when I got the D2x, but the D3 really is the last new body, at least for this decade. The D300 would be a better bargain to the D200. Just for the fact that the D700 is coming soon. The D300's will be plenty on Ebay come next month.

Nikon may or may not be the better than Canon bodies. Different people will have different opinions and in reality it is just that...opinion. I too have used both and prefer the Canon. "IF" Nikon has the edge with the ergonomics of their bodies...Canon is by far the leader when it comes to lenses. Canon "L" lenses are the industry standard when it comes to anything to do with sports, action, nature photography, etc. Next time you go to a football game look for the big white lenses on the sideline. Most of will be white...and they aren't Nikons or anything else but Canon.
Try them all and pick what camera you like. I have a freind that swears by his Fuji DSLR gear...and he takes GREAT pictures. In the end they will all take good pictures and it comes down to preference."Just because youre offended doesnt mean youre right." - Ricky Gervais

Odd that Fuji is mostly Nikon made. I am not quite sure as to exactly how much.
I know that the masses of sports shooters use Canon, does not make it better. I give respect to both, but myself Nikon..Nikon...Nikon.And I mean calling all cars, blackhawk down, mushroom cloud, Three Mile Island, lock the door behind you kind of mad. -

Just like the military using mostly Nikon doesn't make them better. An BTW the official photorapher for the unit that my Brother in Law was with in Iraq used Canon. Maybe it was his own and not official issue.
Whatever.
They are all good and about the same and in the end it is the photographer that makes the difference...not the gear."Just because youre offended doesnt mean youre right." - Ricky Gervais
