Web Page Creation question:

I just need some guidance on creating a password protected web page; it's probably as simple as pie, but I know little about creating a web page other than the canned Yahoo/AOL/Earthlink "Create your own Homepage" (plug and chug) stuff.
I'd like to create a Web Home Page that is password protected.
I would like to also log the IP's of those attempting (or succeeding) to log on.
A successful Home Page log on will bring up a page with 3 password protected links.
That's it.
A simple, "Geez, you moron, all you have to do is fill-in-the-blank" and/or a recommendation for some software to accomplish this would be appreciated.
I was thinking of offering a large cash incentive (okay, I'm lying), but be content (I hope) with the knowledge that this will be used to diminish the Evil that Exists at job 1, and will help re-establish the Protestant Work Ethic to it's rightful place (no offense meant towards Catholics, Jews, Hindus, Muslims, atheists, or .... Irish).
Thanks.

The old school way of password protecting a directory / folder is by using .htaccess. This is mainly for apache / unix servers. You could also use a Perl or Unix script for this too.
To use .htaccess for other web pages that you want to protect you would put each page in a seperate folder. The newer way to pass word protect a page would be with .php script I have always just used .htaccess
The logging is something that is more server dependant and you might have to ask the tech support guys specifically. Most providers provide a built in stat package that logs IP address that you can turn on. Not sure if this is what your looking for there.
If all else fails, you could have someone write a small Perl script to do the Login/Password, and also keep track of how many and who is logging in or attempting too. (Might be able to find a .php script for that too. Most providers have .php shells)
Hope that helps a bit,
