    Welcome to Club Polk!

Listen to as many receivers that you can played on the Monitor 70's if possible & pick the one that sounds the best with the speakers. Otherwise get a receiver that has all the bells & whistles that you want it to have & make sure it has preouts for future upgrades in power.

    Here is my 2 cents:

Spend the time using the search function on most of your questions. I'm not trying to be a nuckle head. The reason I say that is a lot of people go buy a AVR and find out it is not what they wanted. They then come here and say "I need an amp" or I'm going to seperates.

While the natural progression seems to be AVR, Amp, wires and then pre/pro, you can read these threads and decide which route you want to take. Believe me, I am guilty of the same thing! When I started in this hobby, there was no web so the information was not there, or easily obtained. There are some very experienced people on this site who share what works. It would have been such a help to have the web many years ago. Once you read some threads you'll find what seems to work well, what does not and all within your budget.

This hobby can be both enjoyable and frustrating at the same time. I would read up on the lingo used in audio. Having an understanding of the terms will help you decipher a thread that talks about bright, warm, pre/pro, DAC, etc. etc. Most of all, have fun with it!!!!

You'll definitely want a more powerful Receiver - get one with pre-outs so you can add an Amp in the future. for your purposes I'd recc'd Onk 705 (or MUCH better: 805, 875 budget and space permitting) as these are currently on great sale prices.
If you go the 705 route you MIGHT end up desiring a sep amp. But might get away without with the 805 or higher.
    LR Setup:
    Polk RTi10's, RTi6's, CSiA6 (5 ch setup)
    Onkyo 705 & Denon 3808ci Receiver, Onk 875
    Parasound 2250 Amp
Sony 26" KDL series Bravia LCD
    Panny DMR-EH75 Recorder
Panny DVD-F87 (5 disk DVD player)
    NAD T585 (DVD/SACD)
    Yamaha DVD-C961 (5 disk SACD/DVD)
    SciAnt Explorer 8500HD Cable Box
    Orig & 5Gen iPods, , Wii

    Plans/Fantasies:
    • 400 disk player that handles ALL formats, sounds as good as NAD with Panasonic interface & compatability.

Here are some of my personal favorites. Xandra is right on telling you to make sure they have pre-outs. I would also confirm it is HDMI 1.3 compliant, and decodes master audio formats. My instinct is to tell you forget the AVR and go straight to separates. If you cannot afford that then get that Marantz 8002, or the Denon 5308. If money is a big issue, the best all around low price AVR has got to be the Onkyo TX-SR606, although I would be concerned with only having 90 watts per channel (WPC) available.

    Entry Level
    Onkyo TX SR-606
    Pioneer Elite VSX 91TXH

    Mid Level
    Marantz SR 7002
    Integra DTR 8.8
    Denon AVR 3808CI

The Onkyo 606 does not have preouts. Those start with the 705.

No wonder it seems like such a great deal. I must have overlooked that and thanks for the heads up. Daly I would take that 606 off the list for your needs.
