Max screen size from projector in 11' room

The next step in trying to get the best possible sound from my system is to replace my TV. Currently, I have a 57" Hitachi digital monitor CRT rear projection set Purchased new in 2004. The picture is great, especially after I had it calibrated to ISF specifications.

The problem is the top part is essentially a hollow 57" plastic box which vibrates with low frequencies. Since I doubt I can take it apart and stiffen the box part to stop the vibrations, I have decided to replace it. But, the replacement must be at least 57".

I am thinking of getting a projector and screen, which should eliminate the vibration part, and give me a more open room. The room is 11' long and I want to have the screen at one end, and hang the projector from the ceiling at the other end. After all is said and down, assume a distance of 8-9 feet between projector and screen.

My question is, will this be a sufficient distance to at least get a 57" picture, and hopefully a larger picture?

Using the Epson Home Cinema 1080 mounted at 10 feet would put you at a 92 inch screen. Shoot for a white screen with 1.0 gain and you should be ok. Recommended seating is 9-15 feet so that would be huge for that room. Most likely your best bet and the Epson is a great PJ also.

Here's a link to a project throw calculator. You need to supply a make / model as the lens & zoom will ultimately determine what screen size you can get. Still, various brands won't differ too much so you can play around with several brands & get a rough idea, then shop & fine tune it later.
