I'm a long time owner and fan of the first generation SDA - CRS bookshelf speakers. Mine are in excellent condition and produce great sound. I recently purchased a pair of R50's on sale from Fry's because I just could not pass up the great price. I'm planning on running either the CRS's or the R50's downstairs in a room approx 20' X 25' room. My source is an old school Sansui R-300 (30 watts). It powers the CRS's with no problem. Anyone out there own both or have listened to both? I know the best way to judge is to hook them up and listen but I'm just curious how they will compare. Are the CRS's much better? better? or not as good?? Thanks!

A 20'x25' room is on the larger side. Get some real power to your CRS's and they will sound much better than they do now. No comparision, the CRS's are better.

No brainer. The CRS's are quite a bit better, But you do need a little more power for that room.

The R50s are pretty decent entry level speakers, but can't touch the CRS...if 2 guys weren't enough ;).

Thanks everyone. I really appreciate the quick response. I suspected as much and I really do love the CRS's. I'll check into a higher output / clean sounding upgrade to my good ole Sansui. She served me well powering the CRS's and Dual turntable. I'll find a home for her in the upstairs office. If anyone has any recommendations in the under $500 neighborhood I'm all ears. Thanks again!

Well to name a few,,B&K,Parasound,Adcom,,a Belles 150a hotrod or reference would fit the bill, but will cost a little more than 500.00,,but in the long run would most likely be the last amp that you would need for them. Good luck and happy listening.
