Subwoofer Problem

Hi guys, I recently purchased the Polk Audio RM6750 5.1 Channel Home Theater Speaker System. Today I went to turn on the subwoofer by flipping the switch in the back and it had a loud humming noise. I made sure all the cables were connected properly and tried it again, same problem. I unplugged all the cables and just plugged the subwoofer into the wall so it was only receiving power and it still made the loud hum for about a minute, then slowly tappered off. I plugged it back into my system and now it isnt working at all, just a cackle here and there. Is there anything I can do or what happened to this thing!?
