10 Days Left to buy Monitor 50 / Monitor 60

Hi Guys,

Finally I have saved some money to purchase my front floor speakers. I am strictly on a budget though, and cannot upgrade all at the same time.
I am planning to buy a pair of Monitor 50’s which I will be connecting to the Onkyo 304 (65 WPC) receiver. Later on in future I can move them as surrounds.
As the bedroom is pretty small, around 150 sqft rectangular room I want something which doesn’t takes much space. What I want to know, is the Monitor 60 required for a small room? Will it make a remarkable difference from that of Monitor 50’s considering my Amp capabilities and in terms Bass and mid reproduction?
If at all I can extend my budget, that will be only to Monitor 60’s and I cannot jump between series. Why I am requesting you is I:confused: am not able to decide by listening to the speakers just for 10 to 15 minutes.i will be getting them within 10 days. Thanks for your Inputs.

The 60s dig deeper, but your receiver is probably unable to give them the juice they need to do so. You're better off buying the 50s and hopefully having a little scratch left for a sub.

You should keep an eye on Polk's official eBay store, too, they've been selling Monitor series speakers like plague lately. You could save some more money to put toward a sub.

Thanks, But E bay doesnt deliver to india, even if they do they charge double the cost as shipping.
I am seeing the New Tsi series in the Polks website.. any ideas on that.

I am okay with my onkyo passive sub for now and plan to upgrade to PSW 125 shortly after buying the Monitors.
i may try to stretch to new Tsi 300 speakers, but i find no reviews on it so far.

    Thanks

Be careful with that 304... I had one and it was distorting with Monitor 70 and a CSM unless I was playing at fairly low levels.

I haven't been able to listen to the TSi at home, but I've logged many many hours on the Monitor series speakers you're looking at and the TSi line has much more in common with the Monitor line than not. Maybe a touch warmer, and different cosmetics, but at the current prices here (and hopefully in India) there's little reason to spend more for the newer TSi line imho.

The TSi300s are very very similar to Monitor 50s. They're both very fun, enjoyable speakers.

If I were you, I'd actually keep my eye out for a PSW303 or 404 for a good price rather than a PSW125. I had a much harder time finding a nice place in my room for the 125, but as always your results may vary.

Consider heading to Fry's and picking up the Maple Monitor 50s for 79.90 each. They may be out, but it's worth the shot.

That is a sweet sweet price, though. I really love Monitor 50 and RTi8 style floorstanders that are easy to drive but stage huge, and at that price it's almost a no-brainer.

Agree here, if you want to run any of the monitor floor speakers, you should at go with at LEAST the 600 series (if you are sticking with onkyo). The couple hundred bucks extra is well worth it.
    AVR: H/K AVR240
    Fronts: Monitor 50s
    Center: CSI3
    surrounds: R15s
    Sub:Velodyne DPS10
Dvd/Cd: Samsung HD upconverter (for now)
    TV: 50" Sammy Plasma
    game hardware: 360 and gcn.

    Thanks guys..:)
i have enquired about the Tsi series.its gonne be available only middle of july in india, i can buy them through shop called ProFx.i am hoping to get a good deal on the old monitors. Here i have to spend atleast 450$ a pair as import taxes are too high even for the old monitors.

Meanwhile i auditioned monitor audio BR-5 and Klispch entry level towers.. i didnt like the clarity from both, i felt its not worth the money and also it was little noisy.i am not able to forget the clarity of monitor and rti line up thats in my mind, i didnt hear to any speakers that would beat them so far.

There's really not much out there that can touch the Monitors or RTis within the price range. Good luck with your purchase.

    Thanks
