I was going to PM you about different brands and "Grounding" but I say this about Ademco they are Bullet proof when it comes to "Grounding" It's the only brand I believe could take a direct hit and still work. ;)

Oh I'm definitely aware of grounding. Also made sure that the telephone line (from the network interface) was grounded properly, and that the house mains were grounded properly too.

Well believe it or not I never seen an alarm panel live if grounded in Florida, exempt for the Ademco brand. The issue is that an alarm panel can float during a lightening storm if not grounded, where a well designed panel grounded will try to suck it all down, usually killing the panel.

I can understand. Learned about this in EE 101, but I'm very meticulous with my installs and so far, nothing has gone wrong. Even when we had a few lightning storms recently, everything was okay.

    Cody,

No I'm still trying to figure that out.

He replied back to me. It is for hooking up x10 devices.

I asked him about getting something that would call my cell phone and he gave me these two links:
He said this one is for monitoring:
    http://www.homesecuritystore.com/ezStore123/DTProductZoom.asp?productID=1521
This one is for calling personal numbers:
    http://www.homesecuritystore.com/ezStore123/DTProductZoom.asp?productID=1700

What the hell is he talking about when he says its for monitoring?

Many things in this world work off phones, but many people under 30 +/- a little only like cell phones. I'm 43 work for a land line company, and I hate cell phones I think about burning or crush my cell phone. I what ash or so many little pieces you will ask what it was.

I don't know what to tell you, I know why you like cell phones... I know why I hate them they sound like ****. Call me now, tell me anything, I'll agree because I can't hear you... I what you off my **** cell phone right now.. I will tell you anything.

    *** Rant OFF ***

Ok monitoring is a company who can understand the data that can come out the alarm panel, so they can do there stuff.

BTW you're now looking on nice alarm stuff, I will be replacing my alarm with a DSC 1832.

BTW, its not that I dont like land lines...I would love to have one if I had a need for it, but I really don't. I'm really not home enough (Hence wanting to get an alarm) to want to spend the extra money for one. Now when I get out of college and get a good paying job (and only working 5 days a week 9-5 hopefully), then a land line is a given. But right now, I dont see it as a necessity.

Besides the fact I'm not getting a service like ADT or the like, I need to be contacted somehow to know if something is going on.

    Cody, my young ladd...

I like what you're looking at DSC 1832 escort optional, still not sure what you looking to do the Escort panel works with a land line it allow any house phone and your cell phone or any remote phone to work the alarm. I now of some products but I'm old of this (been 10 years outside of the alarm industry) so I'm sure things have change a little with new cell phone equipment. I think that cell phone equipment that you just linked to uses a SIM card and it gives you a local phone line when the land line broken, but this needs a monitor system also. This is needed because we're human and we don't understand digital signals.

10 year ago a cell phone back ground local phone equipment would give the house or business a phone line out, this would sound just like a land line phone but it would give you a tone every 30 seconds or so. This it telling you are on a cell phone emergency system and its cost you an arm or leg... so you better know its when you're needed it. 10 years ago it was like $4-5 dollars every minute. But understand an alarm signal out would be under 30 seconds so if you needed the signal out $2 or 3 bucks to save your stuff it was pretty cheap.

BTW if you not home a lot I think you need a phone, because you feel you need an alarm.
