Getting ready to add one of these to my truck. I have a Pioneer PRS880 head unit and it will accept either and act as the controller. I've sampled XM several times and the formats seem pretty good. I just wanted to get a few of your takes on the pros and cons of the two before I subscribe.

Thanks,
Chuck

They're in the process of merging so I don't think it will really matter. I have Sirius in my car and I'm happy with it.

You wait much longer, it will be all one service, anyway.

I like XM because it does NOT have Stern. I have it as part of Directv, and have been thinking about getting it in the van. Good selection, just wish they had more than 1 blues station. Plenty of rock stations, country, jazz.

Does either one have a Latin Jazz-based station? I've looked at the descriptions and couldn't really tell either way on either service?

    Thanks,

That was the determining factor for me when I switched from XM to Sirius. They're pretty much a wash in terms of equipment and SQ, IMO. The blues, classic jazz, and Grateful Dead channels sold me on Sirius. Sirius also has a good amount of area specific weather/traffic stations which is nice when you're on the road.

I had sirrius but canceled at the end of the contract, it seemed for a given channel there was a relatively small play list that gets recycled over and over.

Maybe because there no commercials so more songs get played, therefore it becomes more noticeable, or because they have to get licencing because of the ability to save songs, there are few artists to chose from, I don't know, I just found it very repetitive.

Dollar for dollar I like the membership to napster, yeah you only "rent" the songs and you need a player that handles the drm, but it is the same cost as sirrius and if you download 400 songs to a player you ultimately have a broader selection than what is played on the sirrius channels that you will like.

Mostly jazz and house, trance, industrial dance. But I also swing into a classical mode and go back to the 70's, 80's and 90's at times. Hell fire I listen to almost everything, but mostly into jazz right now. I also like talk radio and old time radio shows on long drives, 9 hours + of drive time at night.

I prefer XM myself, but i also have only limited use of Sirius......I am more of a music person myself and less of a talk show person.....I would pick sirius for talk, and XM for music........But soon enough they will both be under the sirius name......so the choice will be easier.....and cheaper.....the monthly plan will be less when the merge happens!

Oh good point, it is annoying how my Sirius radio keeps tuning itself to that station.

Not but I am a Sirius subscriber and I absolutely love the service. When I am in Atlanta or in the Bay Area, the terrestrial coverage is fantastic and I almost never get a single drop out. I am also a HUGE stern fan and was just listening to him talk about the merger this morning on the show. The thing has been in the works for 16 months! God damn NAB keeps trying to stop the merger from happening.

Some of the main selling points for me with Sirius was the Stiletto 2 which I can take with me wherever to enjoy sat radio regardless of where I am as well as record songs I like directly to it. Also, it will connect to WiFi indoors where terrestrial signals are not available. I am also a big electronic music fan and between Area 33 and Chill I am extremely happy. My roommate is a big Classic Rock fan and love the Classic Vinyl station. There is so much unique content in regards to talk on it as well I have never found myself not being able to find something I want to listen to on the service and my radio is on me almost at all times.

I have Sirius and am happy with it. Sound quality is compressed and muffled compared to a CD, but the variety of content makes up for it. For a little extra a month, the premium Internet streaming option is excellent. Great quality. I also like Stern, so that's what sold it for me, but I'm sure XM is just as good.
