Is it worth buying the normal controllers for their conventional games? The one that comes with the console is ridiculously terrible for playing games like Brawl.

do you have a gamecube controller? If not, I highly suggest you get one (try for the wavebird). Brawl was intended to be played with that controller anyway...
At first I liked the wii controller, felt like it was something new. Now though, It feels like the controller is limited how well I can play, I really don't like using it anymoreAVR: H/K AVR240

Yes, the one that looks like a new version of the SNES controller is awesome. I love it. I like the analog sticks on it better than my 360 controller. It makes Mario Kart easier too. -
I've played Brawl using the Wii controller and nunchuk and dont find it all that difficult to play. Then again, i've never played SMBs on any of the older consoles, so i have no idea how they game is "really" suppose to play.Center: Csi5
