I picked up a pair of Dynaco speakers they might be the A-25's. I would like to pop the grills off and take a peek, but they ain't budging.
Were some of the Dynaco grills possibly glued on?

Thanks,

There's a pair of A-25's at my local thrift that also appears to have the grills glued on.

Yes. They're probably glued on. The woofers used rubber surrounds so they should be good.

    Face - go get them.

I'm tempted to, but I already have enough speakers here to start my own thrift store.

I'd suggest leaving them at the thrift shop.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Kinda agree. I picked up a pair based on many testimonials and i was "under impressed". Easily sold them on ebay though so if in good shape flipping them is probably an option. Pry the grills gently so as not to break the them. I forget if it glue or small nails that hold them on.

Thank you for removing all temptation.

I'm still hoping for the day I come across a pair of vintage Tannoy's at the vintage shop...

I'm just curious as to what pair of speakers you have found that would be better than a pair of Dynaco's at a thrift store price.

Dynaco A-25's...yes, the grills are glued on but the surrounds are rubber, IIRC, so foam rot is not an issue.

These set the standard, IMO, of what a well done 2 way speaker with a 10" woofer should be. I've owned several pairs and I love them.

These are probably, IMO, one of the greatest bang/buck speakers ever.

it is as he says (IMNSHO). Nice speakers. In my experience, gentle prying with a small weighing spatula (hey, I am a biochemist; you use what you know) or a dental pick :-) can tease a corner loose; then they're pretty easy to remove. I think that some A-25 grilles are held on with 'reverse nails' (i.e., little spikes sticking out from the baffle board), though. I have a pair of A-35s on which the grilles are held on by Velcro (or maybe just friction fit; haven't looked at them for a long time).

Probably more A-25s sold than any other single speaker model (even the original Large Advents). Good A-25 info here (you probably knew this already):

Over 1 million speakers sold. There has to be a reason.

Awesome bang for the buck, but they do roll off a little sooner than a vintage KLH or AR down at the bottom. I'm not sure there is a lot below 50 cycles coming out of those things. Thrift store prices? All day long.

I've found plenty without the grilles glued on.

Found my A-35s on the swap pile at the dump (imagine that).
The A-25s I have, though, were bought used (for $75 the pair, from Gramophone, in Baltimore) ca. 1981 for my parents. When my father downsized from MD to an apt. in NC, he relinquished them to me. They need to be regrilled and refinished :-P

    Hard Marky, Dump Emperor.

I got my latest pair right here from Troy, who was naive enough to post on this forum, that he found them at the Charleston AFB Thrift Shop for $3. This was right before he was DRIVING up for a week long school at McGuire AFB, so I had them hand delivered to my stereo room. I'm pretty sure I never gave him the $3. Coup.
