Original CD-A8S CD Player - 9/10 - Silver - *SOLD* to Fossy

I've had this for a couple weeks and its been alot of fun. I happened to have a Cambridge 640C handy and between the two, I'd pick the Original, hands-down. I've also heard this unit against an Arcam Alpha 8SE and again, not a question. Original has been in the high fidelity market since 1999 and is a leading CDP manufacturer in China and most recently, abroad.

The Original A8T is the tubed version of this player and our resident Polkie, Organ posted a review of that model. You can give that a look and get some comments about the quality, although the units are totally different. The "T" stands for Tubed and the "S" for Super. I think it's moreso Solid State since the T model came a little later.

It's a noticeably, very well made unit.* Some of the standout features for me are the 1/4" aluminum faceplate, toroid transformer, billet RCA output jacks, machined feet with rubber isolation nodes, IEC power cable and the remote control. The remote control is over a 1/2lb(9.6oz) in weight and really makes you feel good.

The "Original" logo turns blue when the unit is on and its also stamped on top of the case. The transport action is tight and sounds very solid upon open/close. This is not just a drop-in Philips and it's apparent from the first time you press Open/Close.

*Check out the comments from the TAS article that I linked below.

Modified PHILIPS CAM12 laser pick up and CD-7 servo system for accurate laser pick up and fast track access.
.Burr-Brown PCM-1732 (24Bit/96KHz) D/A converter.
.Two Burr-Brown OPA604 and OPA5532.
.Original unique GOS digital processing technology.
.High efficiency toriod transformer with sealed metal enclosure.
.Six level precision D/A voltage stabilization circuit.
.Metal exterior and remote control.
.Output Level: < 2.00V
.Frequency Response: 20Hz~20kHz
.Distortion and Noise: 0.002%(-60dB)
.S/N Ratio: 95dB
.Dynamic Range: 97dB 102dB(HDCD)
.Digital Output: S/PDIF standard
.Power: 120/220VAC 50/60Hz
.Dimensions: 16.9X2.9X12.2(IN)
.Weight: 15.4lb

The unit is in mint condition with no flaws or operational issues. The remote control has a couple finish nicks on it but nothing that important.

Excellent player here guys. I have the A8T version which includes tube and SS output. The SS output on the A8S is the same as my A8T.
I've had my Rega since Jan or Feb and still can't let go of my Original. For the Price Doro is asking, you will NOT find a better player, period! The Original trashed and embarrassed a NAD cdp I have.

Second owner. I chose the Original because it sounded better than the 640C....and the Cambridge had to be returned to its disgruntled owner.
