Proud Moment For Dad

Our 9 year old son wanted to take golf lessons this year so we signed him up. This past Saturday the instructor took the kids out on the course and let them play one hole – best ball. This was a long par 4.

Anyway, the ball is on the green and all the kids shoot and our son's, Sean, ball is the closest – AGAIN – Dad bragging again. One father, who was a bit of a big mouth during the entire day, asks Sean if it would take another 4 shots to put it in. The ball was about 6 feet away from the hole. Without 2 seconds going by after the question, Sean responds, “Nope, just one!” Personally I was a little amazed that he said that. He walks up to the ball takes his position and drains that puppy. The jerk never said another word. We did the big 5 after that. :D

Haha, nothing quite like a witty response and some skill from a young child to put someone in their place. That's priceless. :D

Oh man . . . the next best Golfer from where? Canada!!!! Haha. Does he use a hockey stick to putt?

Seriously though, that's awesome. That's the kind of moment you want on video to showoff after he's grown up.

The clubs - he has them. I bought him a nice junior set with graphite shafts. There is a driver, hybrid iron for fairway shots, 7 & 9 irons, sand wedge, putter and a nice bag. That should be good enough until he needs a full set.

I figure if I only spend 1% of the money I spend on audio he would have a great set of clubs. If he continues to enjoy it, I will get him whatever it takes.

Another update. Hey, I'm permitted to brag.

My son, who is now 10, has joined the Junior Golf Program. They get some good lessons for about 45 minutes and then go out and shoot 9 holes every Monday evening.

Hole 5, my son is about 1 foot off green and maybe 12 feet further to the hole. He takes out his wedge and his Mother tells him to use his putter. He says no and she say yes. .........
My son goes with the wedge and chips the damn ball into the hole. Morale of the story, Son, do not listen to adults. I'm loving this death.

I love to hear success stories like this. When you start them young in any sport its great but with golf they can play it for the rest of there life.
Mother was probably right by saying use the putter but when "he" had the thought "he" has the shot making ability at that moment, well he did the right thing.
Congratulations on raising a great child.

I'm seeing a movie here where the dad ( your part) hustles those big mouth dads like that guy for some serious scratch with a 9 year old who is shorter than his clubs.
