Bacteria that take waste and turn it into a crude oil substitute?

Seriously. It's possible for man to create crude oil from organic waste. We can generate the heat and pressure levels to do it and we can speed up the process. We can also chemically alter organic components to create the complex hydrocarbon strings that store all the abundant energy we already use.

So finding a bug that makes things that much easier is news. Hopefully this won't go silent. Very interesting read at the minimum.

    I've seen enough horror movies to be a bit nervous about us engineering a vast mutant race of bacteria.... but I hope it works out anyway :)

    Let's hope somehting like this takes off. There were predictions that
    bio-engineering would take off like electronics did a 100 years ago.
    This would be good news. As long at it doesn't turn into a B-movie
