My father has a pair of old Marantz HD660 Speakers. He bought them in 1978 I believe and is the only owner. They are in perfect working condition, and only cosmetic blemish is on one of the grills.

http://www.classic-audio.com/marantz/HD660.html

That site gives all of the specs.

I am not sure as to what a good price is on these speakers. I am thinking of selling these for him.

Someone help!! Thanks!

About the same as the cost of the refoam kit, $30.00.

The higher models of the HD series of Marantz speakers command fairly good prices on "that big auction site." Several pairs of the TOTL 880's went for $200-$300.
Main System: Polk SDA SRS 1.2 Speakers, Sunfire Signature 600~two Amp, Carver C-16 Preamp, Carver TX-11b Tuner, Marantz 6350Q TT, Philips CDR-775 Recorder, Teac V-707RX Cassette Deck, Signal Cable Double Run Speaker Cable

Upstairs Den: Marantz 2325 Receiver, Marantz 5220 Cassette Deck, Marantz HD-880 Speakers, Marantz 6370Q TT

Exercise (Kabuki speaker) Room: Kenwood KR-9600 Receiver, Pioneer CS-99a Speakers, Sansui SP-X9000 Speakers (not pretty, but LOUD! :) )

I agree with Jesse. I couldn't see you getting for than $100 for them, and that would be to someone who specifically was looking for a speaker like that.

so many old speakers get no or little love. so, they go for really cheap. it is one of the reasons that i have 11 pairs of speaks, a couple of center channels, and 3 subs. at least they are stackable.

recently bought a pair of JBL L-46 for much less than $100 for the pair (which i thought was a spanking deal on some pretty nice speakers). i posted question here--- i got zero response. ok, i know it is a polk forum, but people talk about non polk stuff all of the time.
you are probably just as well to keep them.

LOL so much better to post your question on a boards better known for general knowledge of ALL different makes and models...granted you will recieve excellant responses to any Polk questions you might have...I have learned years worth of info on Polks, but have also asked a few non polk questions with a limited response..try a few other boards...find a Marantz board and maybe meet a buyer there.

We know our Polks, Carvers, Advents, ARs, Maggies, and quite a few others quite well.

We tend to stay away from Bose, Infinity, JBL, and Cerwin Vega, amongst others.

I very wise man once told me the only Marantz model numbers that mattered are 7, 8, 9 and 10. None of them are speakers.

That is basically true (at least from my perspective), and they all glow in the dark... but virtually anything branded Marantz and made prior to about 1980 is held in high regard by someone; the Superscope era Marantz SS gear (and later) fetches better $ than it would if it were branded, say, "MCS Series by JC Penney" :-)

EDIT: Nothing says "more is more" quite like a 1970s Marantz receiver...

(actually, the quad Marantz receivers were even more Byzantine...)

of course, the point is spot-on--- but i sort of have a hard time lumping those names together...........
then again, all of those names (and even polk  ) has produced some commercial garbage
    perhaps some more than others.

yep, I like my Marantz 7T preamp very much which replaced my vintage Sony TA2000.

I actually liked some of the older Marantz Imperial line of speakers 3 through 9. I had a pair of 4G's that were quite nice as my garage speaks until replaced with one of my pairs of Polk Model 7 which admittedly are much better.

+1 on that. Infinity & JBL have had a few successes and a pretty storied history. I probably would not lump them in with the Home Shopping Network Bose Lifestyle crowd. Cerwin Vega has fans but most of them move on after they reach the age of 14. :D
