Any advice for hooking up an RTi10 2-Channel Music Rig?

Hey everyone. Just got some Cherry RTi10s at my favorite place, Fry's (indirectly).

Anyways, I was planning on using the RTi10s with my 5.1 rig (8s, 6s, and a CSi3) and expanding to a 7.1, but I'm diggin on how all my speakers in the HT setup are black.

I was curious, does anyone out there have a purely stereo (2-Channel setup with either RTi10s or RTi8s)?

If so, what have you found that works best? 10s or 8s? I figured running 10s by themselves would be better do to the lower frequency response over the 8s.

These may become a Father's Day present for my Pops. He's got a pair of Monitor 40s and a CS1, but I may convince him to take them back, and use these.

Thanks for any and all input and sorry for the longwinded-ness.

I have both and over the past couple weeks tried both as ht fronts and 2 channel stereo.

I think it really depends on the type of music you listen to and what type of sound you like.

Right now I am using the 8's as fronts in my ht. I think the dialoge in movies dosen't get overpowered by the bass as sometimes happens with the 10's, but keep in mind that I don't have a center channel yet so that could change everything.

For 2 channel the 8's have more bass than I thought, the 10's go deeper but depending on the type of music you may never notice. Say if you are listening to old music like classic stones, it wasn't recorded with really low bass so a side by side comparison would probably leave you liking the 8's better because I think they have a much nicer tone in the mids.

If you are into acoustic music, again I would say the 8's would be better basically for the same reasons as above.

If you are into really heavy bass music you will either love the 10's or hate them. I am not one to think more is better when it comes to bass and I have never heard a sub that I like for music, that being said there are times when I get confused if I am listening to music on my ht rig or my 2 channel (my ht has a sub) It can just get a little to much sometimes, but some people like that sound. So as long as you aren't into Craig Mack or Mike Jones you should be O.K. in that department:)

It would be cool to have both hooked up for 2 channel, and be able to switch between the for what type of music you want to listen to. But then for that money you could buy speakers that sound better across the board.

Do some critical listening with both the 10's and the 8's to see which one fits the bill for you. Can't go wrong either way and it's more of preference thing.

These would make a perfect father's day gift. A hit for sure!

So I did some preliminary listening. I hooked up both pairs as front channels on an older Aiwa I have (with A and B inputs on the front channels; each powered at 130watts)

Some of the artists I listened to include: Bob Seger, Cirque Du Soleil (Alegria), Dire Straits, Heart, Vertical Horizon, Will Smith (Ha! I know. Just for something with a little bass), David Wayne (great acoustic cover artist) and many others.

It seems that the 10s will go lower than the 8s, but the bass can get a bit "sloppy" sometimes, but I think it might be the artist, not the speakers. Listening to the Will Smith, the bass is much tighter.

The highs sound incredible and clear on both the 8s and 10s, with a slight advantage to the 10s (this really comes out in the acoustic stuff I have).

Mids, I really can't tell much of a difference; might be my untrained ear, or just that I've always paid more attention to highs and lows.

Thanks for the input guys and I'll keep listening and updating.

I think for now, I'll use the 10s as my 2-channel rig just because I feel they have a greater presence than the 8s by themselves.

Check out the post I just made in electronics regarding some various front end setups I did with RTi10s. It's been said 1000's of time here before I'm sure, but the bass on the RTi10's was dramatically different on my yamaha receiver versus a proper amp. The adcom really cleaned up the bass on the RTi10s.
