This recently replaced a b&o TX-2 tangential and b&o MMC-4 cartridge in the living room.

The b&o is living in the basement now.

I have not found any one else who admits to having one today. It has served me well for many a year. I wish i could find out who made the tone arm but information is scarce. This was Sharps audiophile line in the late 70s and early 80s.

The cost of a turntable system is not something I wish to discuss at this time.

I'm not talking cost here I think it is very inappropriate here and actually childish bragging.

I was waiting for you to comment Ricardo. The best picture I have of the AL-III's are from Ricardo when he owned them. This picture was actually taken at Ricardo's house. I thank you everyday when I play these Ricardo.

Actually, the AL-III's and the Marantz geat are located in my shop/garage (no cars have been in there for years) This year I am going to carpet the floor and move some old furniture in there. I am going to make it a living space.

High marks on that setup Carl!

Like Ricardo, them AL-III's bring back some fond memories to me as well. Norm would say they look familiar too.;) (He also had a pair of AL-III +'s in Black with the woofer mod). We also upgraded the wiring to the woofers when we installed the 1040w Infinity's. They made a significant improvement in bass output!

My TT gear appears in my sig and all but the cartridge and Mat 1 were purchased at greatly reduced prices as dealer demo's.

since this thread debuted (3.5 years ago), I've switched to a Denon DL-103 LOMC, which necessitated mothballing the Marantz/CA (the arm is too dang light for the very low compliance DL-103) and issuing a field promotion to the lowly (but capable) SL-Q2.

Thanks for the suggestion. The Marantz/CA will go back with an MC anon - the (a) Benz is on the short list; I am enamored of the Denon sound, though (Philistine that I am) and so the DL-310II is also under consideration. Couldn't pass up a DL-103 for $118 from Comet Supply last year, and it sounds much (much) better than the CA Virtuoso Ebony MM cartridge that was bundled with the Marantz.

As an aside - I am currently having some fun playing with phonostages, SUTs and one head amp (Hagerman Piccolo). Figure I'll post some musings on that subject when there's something worthwhile to say.
FWIW, here's a somewhat better photo of the Marantz in situ.

The virtuoso is ok but not surprising you are liking the denon.

Going to the glider from the virtuoso was significant. I think the virtuoso must be way overpriced as there is only a couple hundred bucks difference in price but performance difference is huge.

I have read some good stuff about hagerman.

Very familiar with you Marantz pics ;-), love mine but it has been idle for the last month since most of the time has been playing with the music server.

As soon as my custom dust cover arrives, a heavy platter Lenco L75 idler wheel drive turntable with MG-1 linear tracking air bearing arm will replace the Nottingham Space 294.

The Lenco, before and after. Custom built and painted heavy plinth, trimmed top plate, cleaned, lubed and setup by me. Cartridge pictured is an NOS Acutex M310 III E MM cartridge. Nice lively cartridge, but the Dynavector Karat 17D3 has replaced it. I always thought them Lenco owners were exaggerating the claims, but I am now a true believer.

Thanks doctor r! Origin Live really grew from modest beginnings. Nice table! The local audio emporium turntable guru has an Illustrious on his Nottingham Dais and loves it. I also owned a Sumiko Blackbird, back when they were priced well below $1K. Great cartridge! They pair up well with the Nottingham Space arms. Matter of fact my Karat was well under $1K too when I bought it.
