Cool, but considering how inaccurate the EPA's measurement of fuel economy is, I"d take it with a grain of salt.

    The DB9 is a "minicompact"?

A Bentley Continental is a "subcompact"?

Are they looking at the same cars I am?

And it seems that my truck is much more efficient than any car on the worst list and pretty close to most on the best list. I've been averaging about 18 miles to the gallon. Not bad for a full-sized pickup truck with a gigantic engine and gigantic supercharger bolted on to it.

    That website is crap.

It shows my 2000 Passat V6/5-sp manual as getting 18city/26hwy.

I have never seen less than 24mpg in that car and I usually get 29-31 on the Hwy. In mixed City/Hwy driving, I usually average 26-27mpg over the course of a few thousand miles on my trip odometer. I also verified by actual gas used vs odometer mileage. I get over 400 miles on approx 15 gallons every time.
For rig details, see my profile. Nothing here anymore...

The numbers seem to be worst case scenario. They show my Suzuki Forenza at 20/27; I routinely get 26/33 out of it, and I drive it fairly hard.

it's because size class for cars is based on interior passenger and cargo volumes combined...

I used to get 37 MPG with stock tires on my civic....not 27 / 33 that they mentioned...

I didn't realize that the SMART cars only got 33 city and 41 hwy. My wifes VW Jetta TDI does quite a bit better than that. Even with her heavy foot we get 37-38mpg with nothing but city driving.

Yes, but isn't diesel more expensive than gas?

That's all the mileage you get out of it? Is it an automatic?

Dad's manual 2004 TDi gets 47-48mpg in the city and 52mpg on the highway. Has gotten 55mpg on a highway trip.

I think that's good enough that it definitely makes up for the increased cost of diesel.

You figure if Diesel is 5 bucks a gallon and octane is 4 bucks a gallon, then getting 48MPG@$5 is the same as 38MPG@$4. So yeah I'd say you're still doing pretty well.

That list is funny. All the cars that get the worst are cars that if you can afford them the last thing you're concerned about is mpg. lol.

Good and bad mileage ratings are great, but they need to be looked at realistically. Like was stated above, if you are driving a $300,000 car, I don't think MPG is your top priority. I've actually heard someone wealthy talk about if gas goes up to $10 a gallon, the more gas and road for them because normal people won't be able to afford it. It sounds like a harsh opinion, but that's a free market, and he's earned where he stands in society. On the other hand, if you want(1) an economy car for commuting, good for you; but good luck towing your boat or RV with a Prius...

    (1) Notice I said "if you want". If you want to drive a gas guzzler, I don't see why other people or the government should say otherwise. The idea that a car company is required to change its vehicles based upon CAFE standards, no mater how sales are, is insane. I free market is supposed to mean that what sells/makes money goes.

    Dodge 1500 4x4 4 door on highway = 11-16 mpg gas

Dodge 2500 4x4 ext cab on highway = 20-24 mpg diesel

Thank GOD I don't have to buy my fuel. Company fleet account saves the day.

The older Jetta was a little lighter and less powerful, plus I may need to reemphasize the "heavy foot" comment.:D

And you're right the fuel mileage we get far more than makes up for the higher price of diesel.
