I find myself in Nashville, Tn. this week for work. (will be flying home WAY early Friday morning) I am free after 5:00pm and was wondering if anyone knew of any decent audio related stores in the area.

Considering its reputation as the seat of country music, I would expect some great equipment available for audition/sale, but I just do not have the time to search it out.

On a side note, I did get a garmin GPS with my rental car and it just rocks for finding my way around the city....

Hi-Fi Buys on Nolensville Pike. The last of the Hi-Fi Buys not to sell out to Tweeter. They still carry B&W, Mark Lev, Lexicon, Wilson (on display and ready to hear), Krell, Rotel, JL Audio, Niam, Sonance, Marantz and so on. A clearance table that I purchase several items from each time I go there while traveling thru the city. Park on the side of the building. Backing out of the spaces on the front side can be a biotch.

For the Garmin: 3724 Nolensville Pike, Nashville, TN 37211

    good luck,

I've been to that Hi-Fi Buys a bunch of times. Nice store.

Nicholson's Hi-Fi used to be a good store, but they have now merged with AVX and I don't know if they have a showroom anymore. Here is their website:

Well, did not have the chance to stop by Hi-Fi buys on my last trip to Nashville. I was back in town today though and headed straight there from the airport.

I worked with Josh while I was there and was able to check out some more Wilsons. Watt Puppies (run with Krell), Sophia's (run with a Classe integrated) and a pair of Maxx's (run with Mark Levinson gear).

the Maxx's were a huge dissapointment to the point that I thought I must have heard incorectly last time when I listened to the watt puppies. It must have been the room or gear or something. The sound from the Maxx's was very detailed, but just not very musical (in my opinion)

I had to get my ears on the watt puppies. (they were in the same room) They were set up on the long wall and very toe'd in. They were not set up the way they should have been. (the room was set up to show off the maxx's and sophia's - not the watt puppies.) It was run off a 100wpc 7 channel krell amp and a krell Pre/Pro. (source was a marantz DVD player) All cables in the wilson room were transparent cables. After hearing the maxx speakers I was not expecting them to be nearly as nice as last time I listened to them (in Texas about a week ago). They were just as awesome as last time. Everything just sounded great. Bass, Imaging, detail, dynamics everything sounded perfect. I noticed everything in the sound from the decay of the instruments to the bumping of the microphone. Not only did they sound real, I really enjoyed listening to music through them. Josh left me alone in the room with them for about 45min and just let me listen to anything I wanted. I did not hear anything through them that was a disspointment. I did pull the grills off and looked at the actual speakers used in the watt puppies. They are really disapointing to look at. They do not look capable of producing the sound they do. Trust me when I say there is a reason almost every picture you see of the Watt Puppies has the grills on them....

The sophia's were very nice as well. Much better than the duetts that I had heard in Texas, but not quite up to the same level as the Watt Puppies. The detail and soundstage was a little less and I seemed to notice less details in the music as it was playing. They were still very engaging though and I did enjoy the sound of them alot.

Well - thats my report from hi-fi buys. Seemed lilke a great store. offered everything from a sony HTiB system to the $58,000 Wilson Maxx speakers. The salesman that I worked with was fantastic and I hope to be able to give him some of my business next time I come in the store. A great recommendation. Thanks everyone.
