Can I use Monitor 7B guts in smaller cabinets?

I have a set of 1983 Montor 7Bs which still sound great but are too big for my space. I have been unsuccessful selling them and am thinking about removing the tweeters, midrange drivers and crossovers and installing them in a smaller, bookshelf-sized cabinet (0.50 sq. ft. or so).

Can I use the 7Bs' drivers, crossovers and rear binding post cap is or will the loss of the passive radiators and smaller box size screw up the sound too much?

You can use the drivers, but the MW's need about a foot to work. You will end up with a Monitor 4.6.

Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
    Thanks

I built a center channel using 2 mw6503's and a Peerless tweeter, in a 1 ft^3 ported enclosure. This speaker can easily double as a stereo speaker.

I assume building something similar with one 6.5" and the tweetr and original crossover, would do just as well..

If you plan on using these below 80 you'll probably need a 1 ft^3 box per driver. Jake did you ever get to model/test them?
    Thanks

    Model,test?

    No I never did Ben.

The most testing I did was a breef REW test and my trusty ears. With 2 mw's in a 1ft^3 enclosure, I was able to port tune it to ~65hz. It graphed pretty flat down to ~50hz, which is perfect for me in a center channel design. I did have room to tune it lower (not much), but there was no need.

With a properly calibrated sub, it sounds great.

Why ruin a perfectly good pair of speakers? Must be the WAF factor.

While I agree 1 billion %, there are are many Polk speakers out there that have terrible cabinets, open joints, pealing veneers, busted and cracked cabinets.

Instead of parting the guts out and selling them. This is actually a great little DIY project.

Those are the cabinets I was thinking about - when people say I need about a foot, are they referring to a cubic foot of cabinet volume or 12" of cabinet depth?

Face, what's the WAF factor? The speakers may be perfectly good to someone with the space but mine are in a closet because I don't have the room to use them. They ain't exactly bookshelves.

Thanks to those who offered ideas!

You should have plenty of room in here.
