Polk PSW505 too powerful for a Monitor 40 system?

Hi!

I am thinking of getting monitor 40's for the fronts and rears, a CS1 for the center and an Onkyo 705 receiver. And I want a good sub to go with this setup. The PSW505 is on sale locally.

My question: Is the PSW505 overkill i.e. is it too powerful for this kind of setup? I'm a noob so the answer to this question might be as simple as "Don't turn up the volume on the sub".

I couldn't agree more. The rest of those things DKG listed can get you in trouble though. :D

dont worry as log as your wife(if you are married) gets irritated by how loud it sounds and tells you to turn down the volume

I think you answered your own question. It has a volume control on it. Make sure it's balanced to the rest of the system and it'll do just fine :)
