Anyone need a Toshiba DLP lamp?

A friend of mine's 50HM66 Toshiba DLP just died on him. He purchased a new lamp, only to discover the problem was something else. So now he's out a TV and nearly $300. Being the HT guy I am, I'm trying to help him recoop his losses.
He can't return an opened lamp, but I can personally guarantee that it has not seen a single hour of use. So if anyone wants to save $100 or so, let me know. He's looking to sell the broken TV WITH the lamp for $300, but may consider separating.
Thanks.

Did he take it to a repair shop for a diagnostic test? My 46" Toshiba DLP was only about 3 yrs old and it started making a weird static hum when you turned it on. The TV picture/bulb would not fire and come on, but you could hear the audio. It would go through the turning-on/firing process several times, and then stop trying. Long story short...I finally discovered the ballast (whatever this is) inside the set was bad. The repair shop was able to find a replacement and total cost was about 200.00 including labor.
Something for your friend to check out and maybe hold-on to the bulb... -
Toshiba instructed him to take it to their repair location, which quoted $450-550. He's ready for a tv upgrade anyway. Thanks though.
