    What does "Rich" actually mean?

    I do well but I don't consider myself rich; however, some individuals may consider me rich. Now thats FUNNY!

    I say Rich is Bill gates Rich because it would be real hard to blow all that cash. But if you have millions... you can be in the poor house fast if your not carefull. See what I mean?

    I think we all, if we are not Bill Gates Rich, need to be frugal.

    Wow that was interesting,
    just to stir the pot the other way, Who's buying the high-end equipment then ? Manufactors of audio-video products would not be selling equipment if there were no market. Now I personally don't know any one with speakers that cost $10,000 a pair but somebody does. Any one out there know some person who has this type of stuff ?

    i don't remember what brand but I do remember a guy that we did an install for. He had about $45K worth of flat panel speakers for his home theater system. He also had conventional drivers in his center channel and 2 12 inch subs. I don't remember the brands. I didn't handle the speakers, I only did wiring. But the flat panels were about $9K a piece. About $18K for a pair.

    The flat panels sounded nice for a pair of stereo speakers but as surround channels, they were off. I can't explain how, they just didn't sound right.

    Ya... My friend who is also single and an engineering VP has the high end Thiels and I can't recall the model. His whole system is worth as much as a lot of folks homes. All in all his 2 channel rig is worth around 70K, its a wow settup with all the seperates but I could not imagine spending that kind of cash.

    Thats just me though....

    Me too! I did an install on a guy's brand new house over a 2 month period of construction. He wanted us to take advantage of the bare walls to run speaker wires and patch cables and install receptacles. Eventhough we could do it without issue after the whole room was together, he insisted. Kinda sucked too because when all the sheetrock was hung and the carpet installed and the room finished off, all the speaker placements were not ideal. His high dollar stereo system which covered like 8 rooms including 2 bathrooms and the kitchen with a very high end home theater ended up sounding no better than a Maganvox Home Theater In-A-Box from Kmart.

    Total cost? About $135K installed. About $95K for components alone another $10K in wiring and other hardware and about $30K in labor for 6 guys working Saturdays and Sundays for 2 months.

    Some people have more money than brains.

    Yea but his idea of an upgrade will be to do the whole thing over just to place the speakers differently!

    That's fine. I'm much more experienced now than when I was working for my friend as a grunt so if he wants me to do it, my consulting fee is $150 an hour. :D
