Hello

Was curious how many of you have made the move from the Directv Tivo to their own DVR? I'm going to be moving over to the farm house sometime this year and am also going to DirecTV High Def and will have to start using their DVR system.

Has it been painful to start using a different DVR or has the transition been okay....Been reading quite a few mixed reviews, some get use to the change and seem okay and other just hate it....

Thanks

the machine is easy to use but you have to reset it a bit too often as mine locks up, kind of a pita but still worth for me over the cable we have in our area.

It's straight forward and not so bad. I made the switch about a year ago, from HR10-250 Tivo DTV to HR20-700 DTV. The peanut remote is what I missed the most (initially) and the color scheme, but it wasn't long before I got to be familiar with the new interface. One of the nice thing: no more phone cable connection needed. Firmware on DTV box is stable. Go ahead, make the move.
I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

From what I have seen they can be hit or miss.....my HR21-700 had an irritating fan...blank recordings...recordings with zero audio....scrambled recordings...etc. ( Even with the latest firmware )

DTV replaced it with an HR21-100 and I havent had a single issue again...its been flawless. Also, the HR21-100 doesnt even have a fan and it runs cooler then the 700 version. Here is a nice comparison of the 3 versions ( 100...200 and 700 )

I switched to their DVR and in my opinion, it was the biggest mistake I ever made. I had the machines less than a week and made them send return shipping labels and refund all my money. I will never recommend them to anyone.

Does anyone know for sure if the current HD DVR's from DirecTV have ATSC tuners in them? I'm considering making the move to their (DirecTV's) DVR from the HD Tivo, but from the pics I've seen there isn't an antenna input on the current HD DVR. How are you all getting your local HD stations?

I didn't miss my HR10-250 at all (HDTivo for Directv). I sold it last year and went with the Directv HR20-100. Its faster, has more advanced features, and it is able to get the extra HD channels (which mostly looks awesome by the way).

The only thing the new unit gives up is dual live buffers, and just a slight bit of reliability. I've had a few bad recordings, but it is not a regular occurrence. I don't think I ever had a bad recording with the HDTivo.

Really? It will only track one station? That sucks!

Maybe it's time for me to investigate Dish Network. I'll be damned if I'm gonna pay to lose features.

You can get around it by recording one station and swapping back and forth. Except for college football season, I don't really miss it. You get many more features with the HR20 than you loose with the HDTivo.
Like: Networking capability, external SATA drive ability for increased storage, Video On Demand (over IP), a Picture in Guide, faster operation, the ability to get HD satellite locals (and all the new channels), native signal passthrough, interactive capability with certain channels (like News Mix, Sports Mix, etc), RF remote, and some others.

Here is a nice little comparo chart:
