Receiver/AMP for RTi12s?

Hi!

I was thinking of getting RTi12s but I think the average receiver won't cut it for these babies. I'm getting an Onkyo SR705 which has a measly 100Wpc.

1. Will an Onky 705 be sufficient?

2. Should I get Rti8s instead? I don't have the space to get a bunch of amps for the 12s.

3. If I do get the 12's I'm guessing I can pass on a subwoofer since the 12's are pretty good with bass?

All depends.....do you listen to HT alot ? If so,a sub is a gimme,a must.Ice powered amps are very compact these days so if you wanted the 12's and are short on room, ice power is right up your alley, and they are fairly cheap to boot. You can always get the 12's and add an amp later, just keep the volume dial at a respectable level.

I was driving mine with a Onk 803 for quite awhile and they worked fine (I did have my dedicated sub though, but they really love my Carver m-1.5t. 350wpc with like 600wpc sustained headroom. In my opinion, they are a perfect match. The 12's with atleast 200wpc are awesome. As far as a sub, only consider skipping it if you get a good amp for the 12's. If you need volume, get the 12's and an amp, if money is a concern, get the 8's and a good sub with the rest of your cash.

Get the 12's and get some amps. to power them, plus a good sub.

Tall order, but you'll be happier in the long run.

Does room size matter when choosing Rti8's or 12's?

That would be a valid consideration too. What kind of space do you have to work with? Is it more a budget issue?
