Two months ago a company in Colorado offered me a chance to move there from Maryland. I could have easily stayed where I was because it was easy and comfortable to continue on as I had for the past 20 years or so. Well, with almost no thought I made the decision to move. I really don't even know why other than it seemed like a new beginning and a new adventure. I made the decision with absolutely no serious thought given to it. I was just wondering, have others gone with the flow on things like this without a prolonged decision process? Even my extended family hasn't heard about it yet.

BTW, today is my first day here and there is no turning back now.

That's something that would scare me to death. I've also been 20+ years working for the same company. I guess I like being comfortable.

Good luck on this new stage. To make a complete change, get some horns ;)

3+ years ago, I quit my job, left my family & friends, and moved 1,000 mles south.
All to buy a house! My family still believes it some sort of mid-life crisis!

    Congrats madmax.
My wife and I decided 4 years ago to leave southern Canada and head to the Arctic. Yes we were leaving family and friends behind, but we have no, I repeat, NO regrets. Quality of life is way better, an incredible place to raise a son and I could not drag them out of here if I tried. Zero regets, best move I ever made. Enjoy your new experience.

While I'd never have the balls to do it (or maybe I would in the future) I can definitely see the allure. A new place gives you a chance to really "start over". A friend of mine moved to Texas on basically a whim, without even a job lined up. Two years later she's married, has a new home, a good job, and is happier than I've ever seen her. SO it can work out.

    Best of luck.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

I'm in the fort collins area. my main concern at this point is that
I end up with a better area for 2 channel playback. Am I insane?? My only concern with the move is audio rooms. After all, what else really matters. I guess now I'm starting to think of other things.

back in 98-99, my wife and I, being born, raised and living in Seattle for 40ish yrs decided we wanted to move to Florida. I applied to the phone company down there, and in my application process, they changed procedures. It became such a pain in the ****, that I got angry and put in an company transfer to go to Tucson.

Did I mention the only place in Az I'd ever been was the Phoenix airport on a layover?

I ended up flying down to West palm Beach and testing for Bell South. I passed, but they didn't have an opening for me where I wanted to work yet.

DidI mention that Hurricane Floyd was bearing down on the coast of Fla while this was happening?

I got home, and within a week I got job offered in Tucson, and I accepted, never having been there. I asked for a 30 day report date, (so we could decide if we really wanted to) and we took a week's vacation and decided to go ahead and move. And here we are 8 yrs later.

Bell South job offered me one month later.
My equipment sig felt inadequate and deleted itself.

Hey, at least he had the foresight to have everything non essential in a ready mobile state...

No kidding, if the move was a step up, and you are happy, good on ya. I'm going to be leaving this area soon, but I have to wait a few more years...

Yeah, it took me about a week to decide to move to Tucson from Atlanta after I graduated college. Not a big deal? I didn't know a soul west of Alabama and had never moved houses, much less across the country until 2003.

May I be the first to tell you that you've made a HUGE mistake.

You need sell what little gear you were able to take with you and move back home immediately and beg for your old job back. ;)

It just seemed so mudane to keep up with the "great move", "good luck", "right move" stuff...so I thought I would throw in a little twist.

I just did it nine months ago. Decided one night to pack anything that would fit into my car and head South. Actually, I've done this sort of this thing twice in my life. If you're not tied to anything, why not? Adventure is one of the best parts of life.
I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. I've done several big moves. I moved to Rochester, N.Y. for a job,
Then moved to Dallas area 12 years later. I may be moving again in the next 3-4 years. Nothing like a new start. I'm a long way from Iowa either way

It is beautiful up there. I am west of Colorado Springs. Do you hike/bike/camp? Lots of great places nearby you up around Estes Park. Also fly fishing.

Estes Park is awesome! I could go up there every weekend. I brought more than just a little bit of my system with me. 1/2 a semi is more like it. The movers were wondering if I was a musician, a fence or a reseller for audio equipment. A quick look at the four 18" subs, several sets of SDA's and some Altec "voice of the theatre" speakers along with the avantgarde horns and the big hill I lived on brought the movers to tears. The feds were getting close too so I had to take it on the lamb. So far its been fun but after two months with no music I'm not real happy. Soon I will be set up again. Looked at 16 houses yesterday and a bunch more tomorrow.

BTW, picked out a house today and all is looking good. Man, the prices out here are very low. Rather than having to pick out one I could afford I was able to pick out the one I wanted. I felt like a kid in a candy store. If everything goes well I will have this cool looking catwalk looking over the livingroom and kitchen. Oh, the possibilities that has. I may become a nude model or something now!...

I got a video of Stevie Nicks at Red Rocks a few years ago and ever since seeing that I've wanted to go there. Now its within an easy driving distance! I noticed Insane Clown Posse was there right before I moved. That would have been an awesome show. I can't wait to see something in person.
