Just asking because I am going to my 20 year college reuinion in Vermont this weekend and my wife bought some General Admission tickets to the race on Sunday. I am not expecting a whole lot from some of the reports I have read about General Admission in Montreal but hey I will get to hear 2.4 litre V8 reving to 19k without the dreaded **** sounding traction control cutting in. I hated hearing the traction control when we went to Indy. The first year we went, one of the Prosts cars must have been having trouble with the traction control and shut it off because it sounded beatiful compared to the others, V10 back then. The McLaren had a much deeper tone than the other cars also back when their exhaust exited underneath and out the diffuser.

If I lived in Montreal I would be there in a heart beat. I love F1 racing. I could never understand why some people like nascar over F1... left turn, left turn, left turn, left turn...

Personally I like drag racing and try to go to Englishtown N.J. every year for the races. I don't care much for F-1 (and I live just outside of Montreal). With F-1, you see them whiz by in that small section of track you're looking at and don't really see what's going on with the race itself. At least Nascar and Drag Racing you see the entire race unfolding in front of you.

Also, just "try" and get near the pits at an F-1 race....no way. In drag racing you can be standing 2 feet away from an 8,000 h.p. engine warming up in the pits.

You've never been to an F1 race, have you Joe?

I'll try to go. My buddy and I are supposed to take a random road trip starting on Sunday, so we'll only get a last chance to check it out.

2 hour drive makes it all so easy.

...oops, forget about this thread. Actually YES, I have been to an F1 race in Montreal before. And like I said, you don't actually "see" a race, you see a "piece" of a race.... the section you happen to be seated in front of.

I didn't like the fact that I could not know what was going on elsewhere on the track. Some people brought portable radios to listen to the race.

One minute you see a certain driver go by, then you don't see him anymore and you have to wonder what happened.

After an eventful college reunion weekend, my wife and I headed up to Montreal today for the race from Burlington, Vermont. It was everything I expected but fun none the less. GA tickets at Montreal are poor at best. I seems they do everything possible to obscure the GA masses from seeing the cars on track. The track is hidden behind grand stands, fences with black tarps stretched across them or seemingly well placed untrimmed trees. Indy is a dream for GA compared to Montreal. That being said, the cars sound unbelievably awesome and it is an amazing sound that has to be experienced because I do not think words can describe. To me all the cars sounded very similar with the exception of the Honda's. The Honda's had a slightly higher pitch (or harmonic) that the other cars did not have.

As far as the events of the race I know very little more than BMW & Kubica won their first race and Lewis Hamilton does not know red means stop. Other than that I could tell you very little else. A spectator in GA can barely make out the cars going by and the crawl on the jumbo trons is not very legible. If anyone is thinking about going to Montreal for a race I would recommend grand stand seats and would not consider GA.

The other thing was the merchandisers we struggling and 2/3 through the race started reducing prices and offering 2 for 1 deals. This was strange because the signs on the ticket booths said it was sold out. At Indy the merchandisers always seemed to have people 8-10 deep and they could not collect money fast enough. Most merchandisers had more people working the booths than people looking at the merchandise much less buying.

IMO Indy is a much better spectator venue and cleaner compared to Montreal but Montreal has a much better ability to move the masses in and out of the venue. I hope they get Indy back.
