LFE and Line level question.

Currently I have a subwoofer with NO LFE. I am line level out from my reciever then to a Y to my sub. In my receiver settings I have LFE only and my EXT-IN set to 0db. On the flip side I have had my subs internal crossover set to 80hz also. I have been reading lately that when you use NO LFE you set your subs internal crossover to it's max which in my case is 150hz. Is this correct? My AV123 MFW-15 will be here in a cupple of weeks which in turn has an LFE, should I use the LFE and if so what settings should I adjust in both the sub and reciever? Thank You

Your confusing yourself. When not using LFE for your sub, the sub's crossover comes into play. You adjust the sub crossover. For LFE use, your AVR or Pre does the crossover points for the sub.
Congrats on a great sub,

Are you connecting the LFE from the receiver to the RCA input to the sub? If so, you are using the LFE of the receiver.

A LFE input on a sub bypasses the sub’s low pass filter, which is what you want when you’re using a receiver or processor with bass management.
If the sub does not have a LFE input, then turning the filter/crossover frequency to max is a work-around to effectively bypass it. If you don’t set it to max, you can get double filtering or truncation of the bass from the LFE channel, as well as bass from channels set to “small”.
What are your speakers?
If your speakers produce solid bass to around 60 Hz or lower, setting all speakers to "small" and selecting an 80 Hz crossover is a good place to start. You would use the LFE input on the sub and ignore the crossover knob on the sub, since it's bypassed with the LFE input. Set the sub's volume to somewhere between 1/3 and 1/2 and calibrate all your channel levels.5.1 and 2.0 ch Basement Media Room: Outlaw 975/Emotiva DC-1/Rotel RB-1582 MKII/Rotel RB-1552/Audiosource Amp 3/Polk LS90, CS400i, FX500i/Outlaw X-12, LFM-1/JVD DLA-HD250/Da-Lite 100" HCCV/Sony ES BDP/Sonos Connect.
