Rewiring cartridge to headshell

I am rewiring a cartridge to headshell. The cartridge is mounted in a headshell and is standard half inch and is marked for red white green blue. The headshell connections are not. I have 3 turntables with half inch cartridges and all three are wired differently. This can't be correct. Common sense says the headshell should be wired identical to the cartridge such that if the wires weren't bunched the red would run in a straight line to the headshell connection as would white blue and green. The particular headshell I'm rewiring has them crossing over. With the stylus pointing down the top right wire is red top left white etc. Then looking at the connectors on the headshell red is top right white top left. This seems to me to be crossing them over. So the question is what is the correct way to wire the headshell? Thanks for any input.

Don't worry about whether they crossover or not. Just worry about matching the correct R+, L+ and grounds to the tonearm, which in turn matches the RCA outputs. Use a continuity meter to check.
Cartridge manufacturers didn't always do things the same, just as different TT/tonearm manufacturers often did things differently. For rig details, see my profile. Nothing here anymore...
