subwoofer wiring

I just purchased a new OnkyoTX-SR875 receiver (with an RCA subwoofer output) and a new powered subwoofer. My previous receiver had regular speaker wire outputs for the subwoofer and I had therefore previously installed high quality 12 guage speaker wire through the walls (about 50 feet) to the location where I want my subwoofer. Can I just wire an RCA connector to the existing in-wall speaker wire to my powered subwoofer or will the sound quality suffer as compared to the same length of standard shielded RCA cable? Will the long length also cause a problem?

I wouldn't, you should get the correct cable. SignalCable and Blue Jeans Cable both make custom lengths that would work for you.
