I just built my fist piece of furniture.

This was some empty space that was behind my front door. I needed a DVD rack so this is what I built. the frame was built out of pine and the back panel out of birch and all the molding out of oak. It was stained Red Mahogany.
I should hold about 600 DVDs and the shelfs are adjustable.

    Ben,
Thanks! I know that its not the best, but I thought for my first shoot its not that bad. I was just going to buy a rack but For the $$$ some of them are getting for them I said "What the heck I could build one for a 1/4th of the cost and it would have to be better then some of the junk that I've seen Plus it would be solid wood."
So that is was it ended up looking like. I wanted to clear it but I ran out of time.

From Start to finish it took me about 6hrs to buy all the material's, stain and construct it. I hope this gives others the drive to go out and try and build stuff on your own.

I swear this was my first attempt and anything like this. Granted I have bought unfinished stuff from Lowe's (End Tables) And stained the tops and painted the frames but I have never built something from scratch.

Right around $175 - $200 (Damn Wood is Expensive) But Some of the ones that I was looking at was anywhere from $400-$600, and they looked like Junk. (they was in AudioAdvisor catalog)

    6' 10 1/4" Tall x 3' 6 1/8" Wide x 8" DEEP

If I would have had this built I would have hate to seen the bill for some one else to do this. Anyone want to give any estimates on building this for somebody?

Very nice build. I'm sure you will enjoy it for years. I especially liked the coping your choose and the stain color.

Not to derail the thread, this is what I chose as a storage solution. Due to space requirements I made a decision a few years ago to dump the DvD boxes and go with DVD Binders from Univenture. I also use thier XG Viewpak Safety Sleeves for CD's. (smaller quantities are easily purchased this way - Storage Box w/ 70 sleeves )

In the long run, I'll probably spend more than your build but I just didn't have the space to store all the DVD's and CD's in traditional the Traditional wallets and Jewel Cases.

At one time I tried to use those cases but in the long run i was very unhappy with them and I went back with the cases.
also I still have the binders and extra sheets that I would like to get rid of. I have a total of 4 books that I think will hold 100dvd's each. They are from Case logic.
I can send pictures of them. I think I have well over $100 in the 4 books and extra sleeves.
