When you word is worthless...

There is a craiglist type thing in Quebec called Lespac.com I check it out regularly to try and find a deal. Well it finally appeared....an Onkyo Grand Integra amplifier, with the matching pre-amp and matching tuner. The seller was the original owner with the original boxes in absolute mint condition for $600. Plus, he had a pair of Infinity Kappa 8 speakers that he also bought new and still had the boxes and they were $400.
I called and they weren't sold yet (I had caught the ad in the beginning). He was 3 hours away and I told him I'd take the day off and be there the next morning. We "shook hands" on the deal over the phone. Well, he calls me 10 minutes later saying that his wife hadn't told him that she had already sold them...yeah right! Man was I pissed...obviously, the next caller simply offered more money and he came up with that lame **** excuse.
....and that my friends, is a man who's word is worthless.

Or the next caller said they could be there in 5 minutes.
Unfortunately, that's usually the way it is on Craigslist."He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche -
I agree with Keilo - things happen for a reason. It is frustrating when people let you down on their word - I know this for sure. Anyway, head up Joe and do not be surprised if a much better deal lands on your doorstep in the near future.Michael
In the beginning, all knowledge was new!

Send him some immediate karma, Craigslist style. Post an ad for him, in the personals.-Ignorance is strength -

Have experinced this on CL many many times....money talks these days -
Sorry to hear that Joe ...... FIRST thing I do in the phone conversation is ask if the item is still available for the advertised price AND get detailed directions to their house...before the conversation goes any further.
They are MUCH less likely to dick around when you have directions to their front door.
The other rule is .....if it's an AMAZING price for something you REALLY want....you go get it NOW...not the next day. Using those 2 rules has kept my craigslist experiences top notch. The first rule of Fight Club is you don't talk about Fight Club -
Shadow......he DID give me his number, address, and directions to his house. It was around 7:30 p.m. and I called from work, hence the "next morning" pickup (he was 3 hours away in Quebec City). He called me back at work 10 minutes later (call display).

I make sure I am on my cell phone ....gas in truck...and cash in hand ( Dont have much of that left after putting the gas in the truck )
I ask them that if I show up with cash in hand NOW , that the item is mine correct...and that I am driving a substantial way for the transaction so no matter who calls AFTER I hang up the item is mine correct.
My Oakland road trip for 100 dollar very nice 2b's had me leaving with them for the 100 dollars....he mentioned a couple times while loading them in my truck he had calls after me for up to 300 dollars.
My San Mateo ( I think ? ) road trip for 9.5/10 SRS's for 500 bucks ended a little differently...I was the first caller ...and before he would commit to the 500 price he told me he would get back to me within the hour...smart guy.
He calls me back in an hour and says he had one phone call and the guy offered him 600 for them...and since I was the first caller he would let me have them for 600. I told him I appreciated his honesty and that I would gladly give him 600 for them, but after I hung up I would be on my way so if any other callers offered more they were locked in for me correct...he said yes.
So I got them for 600.
It goes the other way too.....I have lost my **** selling items that I should have sold for much more ...or was offered much more for after telling someone I would let them have the item for a much lower cost.
But my word and personal integrity mean a whole hell of a lot more to ME then just losing some cash...so I never have nor ever will cave in to a higher offer once agreeing to a deal.
Money comes and goes....but once your word/integrity is gone...its gone for good.
Where I REALLY lost my **** was promising to reload or fix the OS on any custom PC/Laptop I sold to anybody, back when I was doing that.
I am STILL reloading/fixing their OS's when then call me....for FREE ....like I promised when they bought the computer...even though its always their ( Or their kids ) own fault for the problem. The first rule of Fight Club is you don't talk about Fight Club -
90% of everyone on Craigslist are gonna sell to the first guy there with cash.
That's because 90% of callers/emailers never show up.
Let's not for forget my long lost poor English speaking buddies that want
to know where you are so they can send someone to pick the item up right now.
They have that "foriegn money order" already filled out and ready to go.
