Accurate Room Accoustic Measurement

Does anyone know of a device that measures the effects of a rooms environment (speaker placement, walls, furniture placement, etc.) on sound. If so, what is it and how much does it cost? Lastly, and most importantly, do any of you use a device (other than your ears) to set up your system and believe it provides better sound? Appreciate your comments.

Use a SPL meter and a frequency generator, and plot your system's FR with various set-ups, configurations, and furniture placement. That will graphically show you what you are looking for. If you use the Rat Shack meter, there are known correction factors for this unit and you should use them.

Are you referring to Radio Shack..."rat shack"? Do you know how much they cost?
