New (to me) SDA 1A

I just got home from picking up some SDA-1As ser.#2380 & 2418 and unlike the
2Bs I scored last week, ($160) these are the real deal ($276) with well matched walnut veneer instead of fake oak vinyl! These appear to have the same dentist drill tweeters as the 2Bs have. I'll want to change them out for the newer and improved tweets but was wondering if the xovers would profit from the same or similar upgrade that is used on the 2Bs, do they have the same basic xovers just with more term. for the addl. drivers ? The 1As are now the highest priority since the cases don't need anything more than a little tung oil and a rubbing out. The IC cable that came with the Bs is really well put together (pin/blade) while the one for the 1As (blade/blade) looks like it goes to a cheap-**** compact stereo. I think the better/more expensive speakers should have been sent out with at least as good a cable as the lesser ones, or a better one. I read somewhere about slip ups in quality control on this forum and can add that the two lower screws were omitted on one of the 6.5" drivers unless it was a replacement and things didn't match up from old to new. What do I need to do besides replacing the tweets and fabricating a heavier IC cable? Thanks for any advice ! gdb

The 2B's are the better speaker, IMO. Polk never sent out speakers missing driver screws. More than likely, a previous owner is responsible for that. The stock IC cable, whether pin/blade or blade/blade looked pretty much the same, so again that's probably on a previous owner too.Political Correctness'.........defined

F1nut, Ben and others were very generous with their experience when I went through a pair of SDA-1A this winter. You can read my questions, their answers and see some photos here.
The array tweeter was disconnected and that circuit on the crossover board was left unchanged. I was very pleased with this choice and can recommend it. I used a singe RD0194-1 in each cabinet. I used sonicaps exclusively. The result was very impressive, it amazed everyone involved.
I'm experimenting with less expensive caps like Dayton and Jantzen on the low pass applications. It will be a few weeks before I can comment on the outcome. The SDA-1A is not exactly a cap hog so you might be best advised to stick with Sonicaps in this application and save that experimentation for the SDA-2Bs which require a bigger cap budget.
