What are the factors that determine how far your front speakers should be apart from each other? Is there a "magic formula"? or is it just a trail and error thing to find out what is best for each individual system??

General rule is to have the speakers the same distance from each other as they are from the listening position. Ex: If you sit 10ft from the speakers place them 10 ft apart. Again, this is a general rule and is not even feasible is some listening areas. Give it a shot and work with toe-in, etc. until you get the best sound.

Te Cardas site has some interesting insights on speaker positioning. It helped me get mine very close.

I have also heard the "equilateral triangle" rule, but for me, each side of the triangle is 9 feet! I have heard that if your speakers are further apart from each other than you are from each of the speakers that you are to angle the speakers in, but since they are 9 feet apart from each other, I find it best to angle them in a little bit anyway.

Has anyone else had this experience?

This is what it currently looks like --about 14ft between speakers and 15ft to center theater chair. I have the screens off everything because I don't want the cat to ruin them like the my old Infinitys..

Where you took this photo I presume is in your listening position. If my assumption is correct, toe in the right speaker [move the front of the speaker only] so that the tweeter points about 2" away from you right ear. Repeat the same thing for your left speaker and see if this helps.

Id move them away from the wall about a 1 ft and a foot closer together, along with Treitz advice...

Along with treitz and Sid's advice, can you place the sub in the corner?

Yes, I could get the sub in the corner if I followed the advise of bringing in the speakers a little.

Try it and then sit in the sweet spot and give it another listen. Then please get back to us with your observations if you will.

Kind of unrelated, but you've inspired me to wall mount my TV; I'll have a setup very similar to this soon.

BTW, Did the above advise help?

Yes the advice helped. The I think the bass is a litte better with the sub in the corner. Bad news is I have to upgrade my sub cable. The Monoprice I was using wasn't long enough, so I had to go back to an old Monster cable. Now my auto on/off doesn't work as well. Oh well, there is always more tinkering to do.

Also, my monitor is on a floating stand. It is nice because I can turn it to aim into my kitchen/dining area. I highly recommend it.
