Currently I'm running a 2.1 setup (see sig). After owning my LSi15's for 2 months I've realized that my STR-DE1075 just can't drive them like it should. I don't listen to high volumes, but I am definitely looking for that punch that you get when a speaker has enough power. I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on some upgrades and wanted to see what the general consensus was.

Sony AVR, out.
Emotiva LPA-1 & Onkyo 705, in. :D

The LSi15's will be bi-amped to the LPA-1 and I plan on using the AVR to power a 2 sets of speakers in other rooms.

Considering the Onkyo can be had for ~$500 it should be a pretty killer setup for roughly $1K.
Mains: Polk LSi15
Pre/Pro: Yamaha RX-V663
Amplifier: Emotiva LPA-1
Subwoofer: KLH ASW8-120b

Is this for music only or HT as well? If it is for music only then, might as well do away with the Onkyo avr as well and get a dedicated preamp. It will sound lots better than using an avr as a preamp guaranteed.

    Both.

Eventually I plan to add the LSiC & LSiFXs to complete the system.

Agreed. Get yourself a used LMC-1 for about $300 - $350 to mate with the LPA-1. You'll be much better off for music and HT. Plus, you can pocket the savings.
