In a Quandry About LSIC Center
Hi,new on the board, have enjoyed myself so far. There are some really helpful and knowledgeable people here.
Here's my Quandry:
I bought refurb Monitor 70's from Polk Direct for $366 incl ship on ebay. This is what got me into Polk for the 1st time.
(I had always been more of horn tweeter-type previously.)
Luv the 70's for 2 channel music.I'm bi-amping them with a 140w ch Pio Elite 74TXVI-S.I then wanted a better center and as my hearing is somewhat poor(57 yr old cancer survivor),I bought a LSIC in cherry, along with a beast of a pro Audio amp,the Crown 800 CSL.
This monster puts out 425w into 4ohms
in stereo and 605w in parrellel-mono.
It's the Vifa Ring Radiator tweeter that especially interests me.
I than went beserk when reading about
the Rocket Onix Center(2500 mk II) at
av123.com.I purchased this in Rosewood and it will be here in a week.
(This is 8ohms nominal,89db sensitivity
Now,I'm wondering if I should go to the trouble of having to drive the 4 ohm LSIC with a seperate amp or go with the easier to drive Rocket, which also has the Vifa tweeter.
The level of sound out of the center is most important to me,not timbre matching.....music(Jazz and classical) is
my taste.
The LSIC is still sitting in the box unopened,so I think I could sell it and the Crown amp, fairly easily.
So,I was wondering if you guys had any advise for me whether the LSIC or
the Rocket would suit my needs better.
p.s.if I sell the LSIC and Crown,I would be +$250.
Thanks,Peter

You got it, and don't worry about posting wrong once. It happens to the best of us. -
My thought is that LSiC is about 4 rungs up the speaker ladder from those monitors. It might work to get some LSi9's and get rid of the monitors. I personally love the LSiC. If you are set on keeping the monitors try it out and see how you like the sound. My Main Gear

Sunfire TGA 5200 & (4) B&W 605's in the party room -
Second dibs on the LSI C if you aren't happy with it.
Where did you get a C in cherry? I've been told all along it is only available in Piano Black. -

I hear what your saying.Money wise I have to build my system carefully.I jumped on the 70's because of the bargain price I paid.To go another $600 for the Lsi 9's isn't cost effective in my mind.I also have some nice electronics in my chain:
The XA1 for cd listening
The Zhalou 2.5 Dac and Headphone amp
For 'Phones-AKG-701,Senn HD600 and
UE Triple Fi earphones.So,big-money main speakers aren't a critical need right now.
The Lsic, still sealed in the box,is starting to talk to me("pick me,pick me")........so I might fire-up the Crown
tomorrow. -

I'd tell you...but,then I'd have to shoot you. -
i believe lsi c means center, not cherry

Yes, but his post clearly states that he bought a LSIC "in Cherry". -
update of my ctr channel saga:
Like I said,I finally opened the LSIC,which I hadn't touched,yet.To my great surprise....it's BLACK!...not cherry,like I ordered.Called Av Depot,was told only comes in black.Why then
do you list it in CHERRY?.......a-holes,I was pissed.Didn't unwrap, put it back in the box.
Round 1 goes to Rosewood Rocket ctr, arriving
next week.
Next I hook-up the 46 lb Crown amp,using a rca to 1/4" rca cable(unbalanced),as this is a pro-audio amp.Connected this to the ctr pre-out on my Elite rcvr......at least I thought I did!.......Near Disaster!.....I hooked up to the right ch input,which I already had BI_AMPED!!!!!!......I did this while consuming a very,tasty 126 proof Booker's Barrel-Aged Bourbon.......NEVER,drink and drive speakers,Polkies......never.
I discovered this when I went to set-up and I didn't seemed to be getting much output from my Accoustech ctr, which is very efficient
at 8ohms and 96db,By some miracle I didn't damage my monitor 70's.
Once I downgraded to the less mind-numbing Maker's Mark bourbon,I corrected my mistake
I've never been one to believe that seperate amps can make a significant difference, but,
WOW,even the Accoustech sounded more open and detailed than before.
I then got really excited, switched to Molinari Sambucca(hey,I'm a wop from east boston!),
and hooked the Crown amp to the Polk 70's.
Wow,again....much more open...effortless power. The Crown is one of the few amps, that
can not only be bridged into 8ohms,but using
paralell-mono and a jumper.can be bridged into 4ohms(640w) or 2ohms(925w)! with 0.5 thd......Impressive.
So,now I'm definately leaning towards the Rocket ctr, which has the Vifa tweeter and 6.5
woofers(it weighs over 40lbs).I'm thinking of
pairing it with new LSI 9's,as was suggested
by a fine polkie in this thread.
I'll drive the 9's with the Crown amp and the
Rocket(8ohms) with my Elite(140w/ch).
So,for now,the LSIC...BLACK!...I'm still pissed, is back in the box and I'll probably sell
......feel free to criticize either my long-winded
post or alcohol consumption.....Peter -
you sure can't return the LSiC?? It's a shame that a perfectly fine speaker has to be returned/sold....But I am sure someone else will enjoy it....it could be meVideo: LG 55LN5100/Samsung LNT4065F

Oh yea,I could return it.It's still as I received it,but then I'd have to wait for them to credit my charge card.
Much easier to sell here or on ebay.Got a good price at av depot:$389.99 incl shipping. -

Ok...making progress. The Rocket Ctr arrives tomorrow. The LSIC gets shipped out to polkie iskandam, also.
I also ordered Custom Magnetostatic Super Tweeters or ERT's from av123.
These I will mate with LSi 9's in cherry.
Can anyone tell me if $635 shipped is a good price for 9's? -
