I just resoldered the inductor back onto the board and its amazing the difference one stereo driver can make. The bass is deeper and tighter. And the sda effect is now there too. These speakers are the best I have ever owned. They blow away the LS70s I used too have.Thank you all very much for helping me get through this. And Ben you were the one who helped me figure it out. Thanks man.I LOVE THESE SDAs.Of course a crossover mod is in thier future as well as a rewire job.I plan on fixing the speaker guides as well and new grill cloth in a few weeks and veneer the sides as well. What do you all think of Kimber Kaps for the 20uF??

Congrats on getting them working again.
As for which brand of capacitors to go with, many of us prefer Sonic Caps."He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche -

Good job. I knew you could do it:)Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
Thanks

Nice work on the speakers. I like nothing better than fixing my own problems and the satisfaction that. I used Sonicaps for mine and I love the results, but there has been a lot of talk lately about what's the best cap for the price.

I used Sonicaps on a set of SDA-2Bs and the 2Bs were transformed. I was very satisfied. You can't go wrong with Sonicaps. Having said that, there are alternatives.
The high pass circuit that feeds the tweeter should be done in Sonicaps IMO because they sound great and are not that expensive in the 12 and 5.8 uf sizes.
The large caps required for the mid drivers are in parallel with the tweeter and are in an arguably less critical application. They are also the more expensive caps. Serious speaker makers are still using $1 electrolytics in this application. Speaking for myself, I got a much improved, faster bass sound with the Sonicaps. I suspect that a much less expensive polyproplyene cap such as a Jantzen or a Dayton would fill the bill nicely in that application.
I have put my solder where my mouth is (ouch!) and used Daytons for the crossovers in my 2Bs. I'll let you know how they sound once they have had time to run in. As you can see from the photo, their smaller dimensions make them an easier fit on the boards compared to the larger sonicaps. The world is full of answers, some are right and some are wrong. - Neil Young
