Question for SDA Fans

I know that there are a lot of long time members that are big fans of the SDA so:

I have heard a lot about the SDA speakers but never have had a chance to hear any. Someone at work has a pair of SDA2's for sale @$600. Not sure if these are 2's or 2B's but seams a little high to me. Not really in the need of these, but if this is a good enough deal, maybe I should consider.

I'm also thinking at their age the surrounds may not have much more life left.

Would this be a good price?
Owners what could one expect for surround life span?

That price is VERY high even for the last gen 2B's (non-studio cabinet version). The surrounds on the drivers are butyl rubber and I've never seen one deteriorate. They can be damaged by careless owners but they rarely if ever "rot", so no worries there.

If they are late 2B's with the wood end caps 1/2 the price he is asking is typical. The last thing you want to do is have speakers like these shipped so local inspection and pick up is worth paying a premium. You don't mention the condition but if they are VG/EX $400 wouldn't be out of line since you can pick them up and take them home. Over $400 and I'd pass.

    A lifetime.

Another note: If they are SDA SRS 2's then the price is more in line if they are in VG/EX condition.

i agree with heiney9... that price is way to high. so check them out and take a picture of them with your cell phone without the grill on. and post it here for us to see.. and we'll know ASAP what model they are.

If they have been upgraded with Sonicaps and Mills, the price may be justified.

good point. but that is rarely done unless the person is a member of this forum and has heard about the X-over rebuild.. so I would say it's unlikely that they have updated the X-over. but anything is possible. never say never.

Thanks all for the help. I will see if I can get pictures, but I'm thinking I will just pass. As I don't really need these I don't know if I want to go through the effort to talk the owner down to a realistic price.

The effort may be worth it if you can talk him down a few hundred... they are a great speaker to start with in the SDA line.

I started with the Monitor 10's and still collecting. I paid $600.00 for my 2.3tl's just a few months ago (cabinet in perfect condition). Some tweeters were weak some were bad, I did the $300.00 RDO upgrade.

Yeah that price is too high. I just picked up a pair, and I'm not kidding, for $10!!!!!!!!!!! Also, this included a Carver M-500 amp!!!!!!!!! I almost felt bad and, believe it or not, it was my wife who found them and called me. She's been complaining about my 10B's due to the WAF factor, I was amazed that she let me get them. The guy is going to check for the interconnect cable.

These may not be the ones for you, but keep looking for some SDA-2Bs or 1Cs. They are both wonderful speakers and the each are best model of their respective design, IMO. The big boys might be for you two if you have a room large enough for them.

I guess it wouldn't hurt to try but I'm thinking trying to talk someone down $200 from something they think is worth $600 because of what they paid just isn't going to happen. It looks like they would need to be in about perfect condition to justify $400??

I wouldn't say Perfect condition for $400, but they sould be in very good condition. I can't imagine the seller wouldn't come down on them if he just does some research on what the things sell for.... most people are getting SDA-1C's for the $600 range.

    Wouldn't we all LOL
Not enough room to go bigger but if I was to find a deal like above, I think I could find someone to take them off my hands @ a little profit to stick in my "toy" bank.
