My SDA2Bs are strange indeed

Check this out guys. From what people have told me the outer speakers shouldnt work without the interconnect cable,right? Well that held true on my left channel but not the right.The right channel outer works with and without the cable.The inner stereo driver(right channel)doesnt work either way.And the driver is ok cause I swapped it to make sure.I checked the wires with mm and there are no breaks.And all the wires go to the drivers there supposed to go to. I also noticed that my crossovers arent exact.The right channel has a male/female plug for the mid drivers.The left channel one has the mid drivers wires soldered directly to the board.Its just one problem after another with these.I should have got the RTA-12Cs I was considering.Oh well,Im going to send the crossovers to ben and maybe he can find the problem.If not I will "TRY" to sell them and get some other polks.

Are these single board XO's? Can you post some pics? I'd be more than happy to help you out, but lets see if there is something simple we can figure out. It sounds like the IC terminals are being used by the MW on one side(right). Try to duplicate the wiring on the left side on the right. It sounds like the right channel is wired wrong. Are these 2b's pin/blade, or blade/blade? There are some in between models out there.

Look at the bottom two diagrams to figure out the wiring. Please note that there should be a blue wire coming from a tab on the XO going to the IC socket. Removing the radiator should give the best vantage point.

They are blade/blade.Date on one of the mids is 1987.Nothing says wether they are As or Bs.I just opened the right channel and the blue wire isnt connected.Does it plug into the top or bottom blade connector.

I think the top, but you may have to try both ways. Check the other speaker out, and make sure it only has one blue wire on the IC terminal. The early blade/blade 2b's actually functioned like pin/blades.

The left channel has one blue wire connected to the bottom blade connector.So do I connect the right channel to the top blade connector?

The blue wire on your pair of speakers goes to the smaller blade. Do not connect it to the top blade.

Connecting that wire should fix your problem.

Take a multi meter, and read the resistance from the positive input terminal to the positive wire on the inner drivers terminal. You should have a small amount of resistance there. Also do the same only with the grounds. It should be a near dead short.

Actually, I didn't catch that it was the stereo driver with the issue. Something in there has to be wired incorrectly. Do you have the schematic?

Right ch-14889 left ch-14666 And the right is in a lot worse condition.It looks older and the drivers are dull looking.The left is cleaner looking.And the drivers have a nice sheen to them. i rate the left 8out of 10. The right is a 5.

There is a problem there. 13.5 ohms means something is damaged in the XO. There is an inductor in series with the woofer that should read maybe a couple ohms. Not 13.5.

Well I would say that could very well have happened when I first hooked up the amps and found out they were faulty when they made that nasty sound come out of the speakers.I will send it to you next week if you still wouldnt mind?Or if you do does polk repair them still?

I'd advise you to swap crossovers. See if the fault travels.

Hey ben,Would you be willing to rewire the Xovers also.I dont know if its overkill or not but would it be an improvement to rewire with the same stuff as my heartland speaker cables?(Its canare 4S11 speaker cable that has (4) 14guage conductors.)And terminate with gold plated speaker connectors and also use silver solder for the xover upgrade and rewire terminations.I will pay you for parts and labor of course.The wire used now is old and has probably oxidized some in the last 20 years.
