Where the flip do you find a new 60G PS3? All I see at all the stores are the 40G units.
Why isn't sony making more of these machines?

They are trying to reduce production costs. The 60gig basically had the guts of a ps2 inside it to ensure backwards compatibility with the older machine. The 80gig took out some of the hardware and used software to make up the difference leading to less than 100% compatibility. The 40gig took all the hardware out and is not backwards compatible with ps2 games. It also lost SACD playback capabilities. For a good amount of ps2 games and other functions, the 80gig is a match for the 60gig. But you're right, they discontinued this model some time ago.

What cheddar said - they're not making more of them because they've been discontinued. eBay or craigslist is the only place you'll find them.If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

I didn't know about the SACD issue on the 40G version. Granted I'd never use my PS3 for that anyway, but when I did my research that's one thing that never came up...

Seems like a lot of people aren't using them for SACD either. So they aren't putting it in a lot of their marketing materials.
Looks like they're also coming out with a new bundle in June with the dualshock 3 and MGS4. Unless you need 100% ps2 compatibility, the extra goodies seem like a better deal than what you could get on the old 60GBs at retail.

FYI the 60gb is making a return with the release of Metal Gear Solid.

Is it the 60GB or the 80GB?

It’s the 80GB that comes with MGS4. There are no plans to reintroduce the 60GB PS3 that I know of. I grabbed mine just before they stopped making them. As bobman said, you can only find them on eBay or at a used game store. Unless you are a big fan of PS2 games I would suggest getting the 80GB. It still plays most PS2 games so you shouldn't have a big problem. Personally I rarely play ps2 games anymore.7.1 HOME THEATER:

A couple months ago I asked my local Bj's club if they had any 60's left, the lady dug around in the coral for a while came out with one. It had an inch of dust on it and came with some promotion from over 1 year ago, three free games and an extra controller. Oh it also had a 15% discount for being old stock. I ended up getting it for 50 bucks less than a normal 40 gig.:D:D
No foo not that kind of bj:eek: -
My bad fellas it is the 80gb, sorry I forgot about that.
