This Carver 2000 is still available on Craigslist in my area.

Any opinions on this running my SDA-1C's? Is the owner asking too much? Seems like a lot of "doe ray me" for an 80's amp.

Thanks!

It's not an integrated, it's a receiver. That being said, it would turn the trick, if you're looking for a receiver. The 200WPC is a real spec, it would drive your speakers. I think the price is on the high side, but that's me.

Nice piece, but he's smoking crack. That thing, I don't believe, was 1400 new. About half that, I think (perhaps George will chime in). That said, that thing will drive your SDA-1C's to Tampa and back.

Someone on Audiogon is asking 500.00 for one. I'm thinking 400.00 for any piece of SS equipment that is 20+ years old is crazy, unless you are a collector. I'm looking for a bargain that will push my SDA's better than my 30 year old Pioneer 7500ii (45wpc). I do remember reading somewhere here that George was a Carver salesmen or something like that so hopefully he will see this thread and chime in.

While I really enjoyed my Carver set up (C-1 pre amp and M-500 amp), I think you could get more bang for the buck then with that receiver. I paid a bit less for a very nice Rotel pre/tuner and amp combo in the FM here. What kind of money are you looking to spend?

Offer him $300.00. With original box and remote it seems a fair price. I've got a slightly older 772 receiver with 140 wpc that really sounds nice that I picked up at a pawn shop with no remote no box for $80.00. Not for sale. But gives you some comparison.

I don't really have a budget, just looking for a good bargain. I spent 100.00 on my SDA-1C's recently (craigslist too) and they were in great shape.

David, his asking price is a little high. No wait, very high. It will do what you want it to sound wise, but this is vintage gear and might need a little trip to the shop soon to get fresh caps and whatnot. That trip will cost 300 plus shipping if and when you send it to High Tech Audio.

A fair asking price IMO would be 250 to 275 for that unit on the high side. 400? Yeah, I agree with Troy. He's smoking crack.

Thanks all for your advice! I did email the seller and ask if they were willing to go lower than 200.00, which was the price I had in my head before i posted here. We'll see, my guess would be no since one just sold on fleabay for 560.00! People will pay anything to win there! I'll just keep looking on Craigslist and here on the FS postings and Audiogon. I am a patient guy.

First post on here, but I thought I'd chime in. My father owned this receiver for a number of years. It was a legitimate 200wpc. Would drive the ads L-1290/2s to house-rocking levels (what a setup for a high-schooler!). Great tuner for a receiver. Also has Sonic Halography, if that floats your boat. Asking price is too high, IMHO, for what you are getting. Also, the volume on the remote is weird- it doesn't actually change the volume control. It will (IIRC) attenuate the volume sonewhat- maybe 10-15 db- and raise it maybe 6 db. That's it. To mute, or really crank/lower the volume, you have to walk across the room. Just my observations.
