Ok, at the request of some...I finally got my digital camera and all my chit unpacked, so here are some pics of the rig and my digs here in Korea. I have one rig fully operational....The Thiel rig isn't hooked up yet, I don't have a TV and to be honest, not sure when I'll do it.
Anyway...here the are and the Quad 988's DO live up to the billing. There is a slight but distinct improvement over the 63's.

Looking good Troy. Stay safe there bud.

My biggest danger in Korea is tripping over a barstool reaching for a beer.
Pretty funny, the two Koreans that came to install my internet connection were VERY interested in my rig, I ended up spinning some vinyl for them for about an hour and a half.

Everything looks good. How do you like it there in Korea? Any travel experience or stories?
-
Correct me if I'm wrong,, is that a Melos SHA-1 in the mix?JC approves....he told me so. (F-1 nut)
-
That IS a Melos SHA-1. Good eye. I figgered, screw it. I'm going to be comfortable and have my stuff with me. Everthing was packed to withstand an atomic blast so I wasn't too worried about my stuff getting jacked up, and it wasn't.
I really enjoy Korea....and I'm not talking all the bars and **** outside the main gate which is kinda sad. Last time I was here (ten years ago) I did a bit of travelling and Korea is beautiful and I absolutely love the people here.

cool, looking good and glad you brought the rig, of course I will need to hook some stuff up back at the Mann cave.

It's going to be like a frat party in that case, bro (bring your own). To fund the 988's, I had to sell everything that wasn't nailed down.

Them 988's a sexy as hell, BTW. -

Good for you. My brother toured on duty in Europe, Iraq, and now Afghanistan... He was used to enjoy traveling on duty in Europe.. I am sure there is more fun in Korea.. -
Good on you Brother and I really like that big beautiful thing on the top of the rack in picture# 1.

Hmmmm . . . I think your speakers are fuglier than mine. Nice setup. Those tube monos look amazing. What are they?
-
Nice setup(s)!
What's driving the Thiel's (looks like an old Carver Int), and are they CS2.2 or 3.5ss? Thiel speakers and golf clubs. . . you and I have a lot in common!
Enjoy Korea. Keep in touch.Stereo Rig: Hales Revelation 3, Musical Fidelity CD-Pre 24, Forte Model 3 amp, Lexicon RT-10 SACD, MMF-5 w/speedbox, Forte Model 2 Phono Pre, Cardas Crosslink, APC H15, URC MX-950, Lovan Stand

They are Thiel CS2's....that is a Carver '007' Receiver that I did get on loan from the Lovely Wendi. I'm thinking about getting a TV for a half **** HT rig but to be honest, I'm SOOOO digging the Quads right now it's tough to think about....plus, WTF ever happened to a 250 dollar TV???? The cheapest one at the exchange here is about 6 Benny Franks. WTF?
Yes, and I do plan to get my handicap down to single digits in the next year. If I'm going to be here, I'm going to enjoy it. You know??
Oh, the tube monos: Heathkit W5M's rebuilt from the ground up by Gary Dodd and Charlie Cocci. They will make you **** your flat hat. Still owe my brother from another mother, Russman for those.

Well, I got the as refurbs so while they weren't cheap by any stretch.....it was too good of a deal to pass up....and I LOVE them. I've been listening nonstop except for work and PT for three days. I can't say enough good things about them.

TroyD,
Are you using any power conditioning or is that just a power bar plugged into the wall? Did you have the Koreans install a direct line from the base power plant? -
Damn. In the USMC, you didn't get **** for room, even as a senior NCO.
E5's and below were stacked up 4 deep in a smaller sized room, and E6+ were
two to a room. Of course, they feed you guys better, too.
Our chow hall ran out of food 30 minutes into the evening meal. They would
rob E5 and below and take the food over to E6+. In Okinowa, we would
sometimes pile up four guys in one of those microvans and drive over to
Kadena AFB to eat there. Like night and day.
Looks like quite a set-up there. Enjoy!"The legitimate powers of government extend to such acts only as are injurious to others. But it does me no injury for my neighbour to say there are twenty gods, or no god. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg." --Thomas Jefferson -
Those Quad 988 are sweet. Glad you gear showed up.

I hear this sort of thing a lot. The only thing I can tell you is that when I joined, the AF recruiter and the USMC recruiters had offices right next door.
No power conditioning, on base we have 110v.....however, that's what I'm looking at next is some sort of power conditioner.

That will teach me to be all macho and crap. USAF. Where the officers
fly off to battle and the enlisted guys stay behind.
Looks like you're well on your way to a good tour in Korea.

Nice quads. Aren't those power hungry speakers? How many watts are your monoblocks pumping out?

Nice setup there Troy!
What dorm location are you in? I was in the airman's dorm across from the golf course next to the chow hall because there was no room in the NCO dorms when I got there. -
아주 좋은!
