sharp 42 inch

I was curious if anyone had any opinions on the sharp lcd's that are out. I am eyeing a 42" that has a model num ending in 64u. It is a 1080p tv, that I saw sunday at my local bestbuy for 1150 or so. I think they are trying to get rid of them, since I do not see it on their website anymore(though possible I overlooked). Was just curious anyone's experience or impressions with this TV. I have yet to take the HD plunge, but am still eyeing. I cannot stop teasing myself lol.

I bought this TV just before xmas. I love it, although it's my first HDTV so I don't have a lot to compare it to besides the TV's in the store. In my opinion its one of the best TV's in its price range and $1150 is a great price. I would go for it.

I have never had any problems with this TV. I've watched TV, movies, played games, and the only regret I have is that I didn't get the 52 inch...

I do know that the price on the Sharps is fantastic, and I have seen some really good pictures on them too.

Great tv ,but if you can afford a couple hundred more try to go after the 120hz instead of the 60hz imo.

Yeah, I have heard it is good. Just was curious for more feedback. I'd mostly be using reg dvds and my 360, not sure i'd opt for hidef dish right now, though I have reg dish. I have checked out the 120hz in stores, and do not like it, so far as I have seen. Just a personal pref though.

Sharp has prevailing banding issues on most of their line. If you're sensitive to them go with another brand. They are very obvious in dark, gray and bluish scenes, also in panning scenes.

I have not seen the banding in stores, for I had been told that and looked on the scenes. One was an underwater scene, and the other a snowmobile scene, and while the color wasn;t as poppy as the panasonics and sonys and sammies around, it looked to me to be more "normal" on everyday objects, though slightly washed out or grayer, for lack of a better term. I looked from angles, but never noticed. Of course, I am of the firm mind that the proof is in the pudding when it is in my home environ, and same with speakers. Just hard for me to make a decision when the "real world" wants my money lol. The BB near me had the 42 and 46 inch models, and the 46 def had a better pic, but that was because they had it wired to it's own blu-ray player, and not the store feed. That was a VERY nice looking pic then. And thank you to those who have replied, by the way.

Here is the instructions to get to the service menu to find out if it has banding issues, this is taken from the AVS forum:
For Sharp LCD TV

Enter service menu by first unplugging set, then while holding both input button and volume down button, plug TV back in. Within about 5 seconds, the set will power up (without pressing the "on" button); keep holding the input and volume down buttons until a small "K" appears in a box on the left side of the screen. Then press and hold the channel down and vol down buttons at the same time to enter the service menu.

Once the service menu is displayed on the screen, you can get the screen to display different levels of solid grey by pressing the number keys on your remote. i.e. press "1" to get a relatively dark grey, 2 for a lighter grey, and so on up to 6 which is a bright white screen; 7, 8, and 9 don't appear to do anything. Press any number a second time to return to the service menu...

Use setting 1 to take your picture.
