Okay so most of you know that both of my 360's failed. Got the RROD. Most of you also know that I am unable to to send those boxes to M$ due to me violating their terms of use contract with xbox live.
So I found someone that would do the x-clamp fix for me. He was also able to up the amperage of the current fans in the 360, plus he added another fan to keep it extra, extra cool.
I got the boxes yesterday, and first off I have to say that these things are whisper quiet. After 2 hours of constant play on COD4 my son never really heard any fan kick in. If you get close to it you can, but over all it is staying much cooler. And for some reason I feel the graphics are better. So I don't know if the graphics card was over heating, but everything is much crisper. Even my 11 year old commented on how it looks better. So there must have been something with that.
So if any of you ever get the RROD and your boxes fall out of the 3 year warranty, let me know and I can get you pointed in the right direction. Each box was fixed for 40 dollars each, I paid for shipping to him, he paid for shipping back to me. Not a bad deal IMHO. Cost me a total of 96 dollars to fix both of them. He will flash 360 drives for 30-35 dollars depending on the drive type. Also will install WiiKey's for the Wii.
Okay enough pirating talk, the purpose of the thread was to inform you that if your 3 year warranty runs out, you do have other options to fix your 360.
One thing to note, opening the 360 will void all warranties, And M$ has figured out a way to detect when the box has been opened through Xbox Live. When you disconnect the DVD drive somehow they are able to detect that once you put it all back together. So you can theoretically be banned from xbox live because of a drive disconnect if you do the Xclamp fix. I personally know someone that that happened to. So he said eff it, and flashed his drive......stupid M$.
