It's been 7 years but Baz is back and this one looks to be fantastic. I loved Moulin Rouge and Strictly Ballroom so I am really looking forward to this, the guy does some amazing cinematography.

Watched this today and what an impressive film. From the cinematography of Australia, to the acting, to the facts behind all that really happened during this time period, it all adds up to a fantastic film.
The Blu-ray is very impressive. The DTS-MA HD track is excellent as is the image quality, easily as good as King Kong which (to me) is one of the most impressive Blu-ray discs currently available.If...

Oh, crap... I was looking forward to watching this, but... if it's anything like Moulin Rouge, I'd rather gargle buckshot. I guess I'll still give it a shot, since I have it... but you've just greatly reduced my enthusiasm, sir.Equipment list:

It was entertaining ,where did any one get the idea its any thing like Moulin Rouge? It even kept my wife watching and awake for 2 and half hours, which doesn't happen that often. As Ron said, great PQ, I don't think it was King Kong great but really good. AQ was kinda hit and miss with me, some of the action sequences sound really good and other time it was just average. For me it was a solid rental, maybe even put it back in the Netflix que for a second viewing in a few months, but not worth the $25-$30 it would cost to buy it.Casey

My wife and I watched it tonight. We enjoyed it. It's 2.75 hours long and it's a mixture of epic drama, comedy, and action. Oh, it's partly a chick flick, too. Great acting (especially the little boy), wonderful cinematography, and a captivating story.HT/2-channel Rig: Sony 50 LCD TV; Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player; Emotiva LMC-1 pre/pro; Rogue Audio M-120 monoblocks (modded); Placette RVC; Emotiva LPA-1 amp; Bada HD-22 tube CDP (modded); VMPS Tower II SE (fronts); DIY Clearwave Dynamic 4CC (center); Wharfedale Opus Tri-Surrounds (rear); and VMPS 215 sub

We rented this movie with high hopes; the verdict ?
Well, as I type this, my sons are out warming the car.
As soon as I'm done posting this review, we're heading for Hollywood with the sole mission of kidnapping Nicole Kidman.
I don't think we'll be doing anything illegal, as we're not doing this for monetary profit and we'll make sure no harm comes to Ms. Kidman.
However, if she isn't stopped she may single-handedly destroy the entire Hollywood film making industry with her ..... dare we call it "acting" ?!?!
Awful ! Beyond awful !!
This movie did have beautiful cinematography, nice sound, some great actors (Hugh Jackman, the aboriginal boy, the native actors come to mind).
It had some excellent historical facts embedded in the movie and were presented in an entertaining fashion.
But sweet mother of gaaawwwd, Nicole's acting was something straight out of a Monty Python movie.
Worth a rent if you can get past Nicole's "acting ".Sal Palooza -
Netflix sent us this Movie when it came out, it's sitting on the coffee table awaiting the weekend to arrive so we can watch it.

I like her acting and thought she did a great job in this movie, as always. If you are comparing her acting to a Monty Python movie, then she nailed it 'cause it was partly a comedic film.HT/2-channel Rig: Sony 50 LCD TV; Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player; Emotiva LMC-1 pre/pro; Rogue Audio M-120 monoblocks (modded); Placette RVC; Emotiva LPA-1 amp; Bada HD-22 tube CDP (modded); VMPS Tower II SE (fronts); DIY Clearwave Dynamic 4CC (center); Wharfedale Opus Tri-Surrounds (rear); and VMPS 215 sub

We're definitely going to have to agree to disagree on Nicole's performance in "Austrailia".
I've generally been very impressed with her acting abilities; in the movie, "The Others" I thought she gave a clinic on being an actress.
I won't get started on how I think she's mega-hot (and I won't hear talk of "she too skinny !" ).
But in "Austrailia", we sat and watched the stamped sequence and were urging the cattle to run her off the cliff.Sal Palooza
