Just picked up this NHT Power5 ICEpowered digital amp. 200 watts x 5 channels @ 8 ohms to drive my LSi Home theater (LSi9, LSiC, LSiFX). I am using the Pioneer VSX-92THX as a Pre. Upgraded from an HK DPR-2005 and Parasound HCA-2003a powering the LRC. I have been pleasantly surprised with the results; I finally feel like the Polks are getting enough juice to really open up. The added benefit is the amp runs cool, doesn't add any color to the sound (very neutral). It's also very quiet no static or hum sound from the speakers.
Just wanted to share my experience with fellow Polkies...finally feel I've added the missing piece to my LSi's. As many have said before, they are great speakers when fed the proper power...

Nice snag. I was looking at one of those also. I haven't decided what direction I'm going in yet though in regards to another amp.

Congrats skor. I have the same speakers as you and once I added a 5CH amp the improvement was incredible. Enjoy.Michael

In the beginning, all knowledge was new!

Skor,
How would you compare the NHT to the Parasound you used?
How warm does this thing run when in use? Most of the icepower amps I have tried run cold even when under a heavy load, just wondering if this is the same. I almost pulled the trigger on one of these but waited to long and couldn't get it for the price I wanted.
Should be the last amp you ever need, no matter the speaker. -
Cool! It also helps that it is a whole lot lighter than most other 5 channel amps!Marantz AV-7705 PrePro, Classé 5 channel 200wpc Amp, Oppo 103 BluRay, Rotel RCD-1072 CDP, Sony XBR-49X800E TV, Polk S60 Main Speakers, Polk ES30 Center Channel, Polk S15 Surround Speakers SVS SB12-NSD x2

I would say the NHT was an upgrade from the Parasound. Previously I was running the LSiFX's using the HK DPR-2005 internal amps which was ok for HT but I felt it was missing the extra power needed that the fronts were getting with the 3-channel Parasound amp (esp. when watching movies). Don't get me wrong the 2003a is no slouch. But you could fry an egg on it, it got that hot and used a lot of power. By comparison, the NHT is only warm to the touch and is much more efficient (saves on the electric bill). It also provides great power to the LSiFX's which is very apparent when watching movies.
I was able to pick one up on the 'gon for 12 bills.Skor,

Thanks for the impressions Skor. I have used Parasound before and they are the hottest amps I have ever owned. Never gotten a chance to directly compare one to icepower though.
The NHT is a phenomenal value, to get a similar ice power amp from another manufacturer like D-Sonic it would be at least 2x the price. -
Does anyone has experience with the NHT Amp-5 amp popping upon turn on? Is it normal?
I bought one used recently and found ch. 1,2 & 3 have equal level of sharp poping and the ch. 4 & 5 are much lower. I understand ch.1,2 & 3 has seperate power supply than the ch. 4 & 5. Any feedback would be much appreciated.
