Denon Link?

Hi all,

Can anyone please explain if this connection is a worthwhile prospect? I have the AVR3808 and am looking at getting a DVD2930, both have the 3rd generation of the link (will pass SACD / DVD-A). I did a search on this topic here, but nothing returned on the Denon Link - plenty on Denon, some on Link, but nothing with the 2 together.

Thanks in advance.

I THINK one of the iPod docks theoretically has advantages if you use this connection instead of other options. possibly also intended for other optional accessories..
    LR Setup:
    Polk RTi10's, RTi6's, CSiA6 (5 ch setup)
    Onkyo 705 & Denon 3808ci Receiver, Onk 875
    Parasound 2250 Amp
Sony 26" KDL series Bravia LCD
    Panny DMR-EH75 Recorder
Panny DVD-F87 (5 disk DVD player)
    NAD T585 (DVD/SACD)
    Yamaha DVD-C961 (5 disk SACD/DVD)
    SciAnt Explorer 8500HD Cable Box
    Orig & 5Gen iPods, , Wii

    Plans/Fantasies:
    • 400 disk player that handles ALL formats, sounds as good as NAD with Panasonic interface & compatability.

    Thanks Xandra for the reply,

Do you know if it benefits though for the DVD player (sound wise) I am referring to?

It's just Denon's version of a proprietary connection that basically died after HDMI was "adopted". I like the single cable solution but I wouldn't call it a sonic benefit over analog.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Are you talking about the Toslink connection vs. analog rca?
I refuse to argue with idiots, because people can't tell the DIFFERENCE!

I suppose I am just trying to get a feel if it is a gimmick or not. I have no issues running analogue cables and enjoy the sound of good old analogue, but am curious if the Denon Link is better than say iLink connections for passing SACD and DVD-A. The Denon Link cable alone retails here in Oz for $999 AUD, but comes standard with the DVD2930 for $1699 AUD.

VXR8: Dorokusai hit the nail on the head when he said:
like the single cable solution but I wouldn't call it a sonic benefit over analog.

These proprietary formats are only useful if you really want a particular manufacturer's accessory at or very near the same time as you purchase your main unit - you can't even count on that manufacturer to continue using it in a couple years down the line... Normally the only feature is better control/coordination of the the accessory (like built in remote control, or auto on) - can't think of an instance where there was an quality uplift.

In the case of the Dennon Link, I've heard pretty good things about there iPod dock -- good OSD in particular (but you'll loose some of the video features if you iPod is newer than 5th gen). and as Dorokusai noted running only 1 cable is a plus...

I highy recc'd downloading denon's manual (then do a search for Denon Link)

Adcom and Rotel did the same thing ages ago with a proprietary connection that was basically a 25pin computer serial cable. It eliminated clutter for sure but it wasn't a very good selling point nor did it catch on with the Audiophile community.

I have also heard good reviews of the Denon Link. If you want to keep your gear around a while and the Link won't put you out too much, I'd go for it. The bottom line is it will be a higher quality connection than the 1/8" jack on top!

I don't think it's a bad idea if the gear comes with it, but I wouldn't buy something based on that fact alone.

BINGO.. no its not worth buying on its own as any there is no difference from another type of connect except theres the Denon name on it...had one used it for awhile and replaced it with a optical connect...
